What could be the battle...

...that raged around this rather boring looking town during WWII? A screenshot from the map is attached (taken from the map editor; 25 square kms). :)

Keke,

Nice!.

According to my Times Atlas the town is spelt Belyy and it lies 130km NNE of Smolensk. I can't recall off the top of my head whether Guderian's PG2 drove through this town in the summer of 41, but the Soviets cetainly counter-attacked here in the winter of 41/42. Where's my "Road to Stalingrad" book by John Erickson when you need it?

BTW its best not to have too many roads so close to each other in the built up area. That's already factored into the City/town terrain. Moreover, because of the underlying 100m movement grid roads that are within 100m of each other effectively create a huge "open" area for movement purposes, which is usually not what you want.

If you like you can email a zipped version of your map file to us at contact@panthergames.com and I'll check it out for you.

Belyi is the correct version of the Russian name. The town definitely saw a lot of combat, but I was thinking something that happened a bit later...

Thanks for the info, and I suspected something like that. But how does one delete graphics already made (excluding the undo/redo -option)? I guess I have missed something obvious.

Thanks. If I ever get it ready (a maximum size map), I'll send it to you.

Glad to hear. But just in case you found "another" obvious method all you need to do is select the point or object and hit the Delete key. :)

That was the obvious one. :)

So how about the *battle* (ok, it's in fact an operation ;) ) the map could belong to? Lucky winner will get an easy-to use estab-editor (or am I kidding? :D)

Mars Attack

Post by Jane Doe »

Wasn't it in Operation Mars in nov. 1942 (Started the 25th exactely) when the Soviets tried to encircle the german 9th Army ?
That was a complete disaster for the Russians ... The Red Army’s tank losses in Operation Mars exceeded the total number of tanks the Red Army initially committed in Operation Uranus (1700 !!!).

Belyi was at the eastern limit of the kalinin front.

Tarasov's 41st Army against Weiss' 27th Army Korps

 ;) :p

Was this map made using the mapmaker in the original game or the mapmaker in the new game coming up?

Joe98,

No it wasn't. It's one done by Keke using the MapMaker that comes with the game, Anyone can create their own maps using it. It's not part of the new HTTR game either. But Keke can see if JeF will put it up the Drop Zone for people to download, if he wants to share it.

He is welcome.

You can send it to jf.lucas@wol.be and after some order delay (my only setting is painfully realistic :D), it will be up.

See ya,

JeF.

Gents,

Thanks for the offer, I will post the map to Jeff when it's completely done.:) I'm quite busy during August, so it may take a while though.

Wasn't it in Operation Mars in nov. 1942 (Started the 25th exactely) when the Soviets tried to encircle the german 9th Army ? That was a complete disaster for the Russians ... Make it Tarasov's 41st Army against Harpe's XXXXI PzK and Fretter-Pico's XXX AK, while Belyi wasn't the eastern limit of the Kalinin Front, and you have the correct answer. :D
