Search arc hotkey alternatives

Post by Sundowners »

My " " key (think the first letter of "Xebra", where X=bad key) is no longer functioning. Use this key frequently for displaying search arcs, and speeding combat replays. Old laptop, but still perfect for WitpAE and have already replaced keyboard twice over lifespan of 8 years. Any other way than hotkey to view all search arcs?

Not that I know of.

Can you pop the key off and see if you can see what's going on underneath it? Depending on the architecture of the keyboard, it may be possible to replace a single key. I've had both kinds.

I would recommend using Autohotkey until you get your keyboard properly sorted. It is an application which allows you to remap keys.

My next suggestion was going to be to consider picking up something like the Logitech G13, but they must have discontinued it because the prices are outrageous. Something like this keypad could be a good $9 investment to get the full functionality of the keyboard's left side back. It also allows your hands to be positioned more comfortably - your "non-mouse hand" will be positioned similarly to your "mouse-hand" instead of being constantly bent inward toward the keyboard. Autohotkey can be used to remap its keys to whatever function(s) you wish.

Other than starting over, there are no other ways to show the search arcs. I would get a wireless keyboard....GP

It may be a little steep, but a wireless keyboard with a USB plug might be had for less than $20. Probably comes with a mourse too.

Autohotkey looks great, Korvar, saving that for later. Thanks!

You're welcome - it is one of the best free apps (of any type) out there.

Thanks for all the input. Have just installed an old wireless KYBD as an interim fix, and due to age of laptop Finance Minister has released immediate funding for new hardware acquisition!

Yes. The OP was a little confusing but he was not saying X is the key he is trying to use, he is using it in place of Z which is not working.

[:D] He couldn't type "z" because his "z" key is not working, so had to describe it to us. After I asked myself (enough times to prove I am an idiot) "why is he typing "Xebra" I finally figured it out.
