Do pilots sleep in their planes at night?

Post by Damien Thorn »

I had a game where the AI did a night base attack mission with B-17s and destroyed two of my planes on the ground. When I checked the unit the next turn it had an equal number of planes and pilots so I assume that means that two of the pilots were killed when the two planes were destroyed. Why do my pilots sleep in their planes? A level three base should have a barracks.

Maybe they were so distraught at the loss of their planes they committed ritual suicide? :)

In most cases, pilots are not affected by loss of planes on the ground. But from time to time they may be hit if I remember well, it seems to me that I have lost aces or units commanders to aerial or naval bombing.

In real life, bombings could kill or main pilots while or whitout hitting planes.

In UV, the more probable is that replacement planes were issued to the unit during the turn, replacing losses of the night.

I have seen squadrons take a large hit on morale whan their base is bombarded, so yea there is an effect on the pilots when planes are destroyed on the ground. I guess polits don't like getting shelled, even where the planes are not hit.

Pilots can be killed just as easily as anyone else at the base. Maybe not the most accurate way of representing this (a pilot dying if his plane is destroyed) but at least pilots aren't invulnerable to attack while on the ground.
