Well, Nicks are trying occasionally to strike at 100ft now. They got 1 PT Boat today! [:D]

I've been sweeping to limit or suppress bleeding CAP but he's kept it strictly to 0 hex lately. I'll keep the low level FB attacks going, but might add some naval strike planes to the mix to see if they get more, or fly more often.

Bombardments near Prome look by the reports to be disabling Japanese squads. When I get the turn and check every unit is at 100% with no disablements. Interesting.

Moonlight is diminishing so I pulled back my flotilla of floating fodder until the conditions are better.

The Frank Ki-84b will probably be very good with CL 20mm and the wing mounted ones.

I don't know why I didn't try Jakes yet. I find they do really well against small craft because of the 4 bombs and no low level penalty like 2E.

These turns have become very quiet. The Allies continue to build Shikuka fighter groups and the rollover now shows 850+ fighters. The PTs are hanging one hex out, and our F and FB have been going. Got a lot of 20mm hits from A6M and Nicks once I put in the high strafe skill pilots. Not sure how damaging those hits are.

On the 12th the sweeps in Burma did hit our CAP, and the Spits and Lightings suffered at first, but wore the CAP down so later P-47s did well. The Allies get about 1.5:1 on the day, but I'll have to move out and reorganise groups. I want to add some N1K5 anyway, so this is a good chance to do that.

Recon by Myrts shows a lot of bombers at Adak, and lots of TFs.

No big things to report on otherwise.

Even though this looks dominating, compared to a few months ago, there are many fewer groups, and many more incomplete groups. I get the sense that if I keep this going for another month, there won't be many P-47s left, the Spit VIII will be depleted, and the Allies will have to use Corsairs exclusively for a while until the Mustang shows up in November.

Lots of little 2 ship TFs now prowling closer to the Kuriles. I'm curious. It seems he may be setting pickets for a move soon to come. The subs seem to be creeping closer too. I've taken a lot of ASW off to use for bombing Shikuka, but I'll get it back to ASW now.

I've set some Judy D4Y1 to see if with their long range I can hit a few of these just for fun.

I'd move out all the strike craft and leave a couple hundred fighters. You have the aviation support in place to surge in the strike craft when you want to attack. To beat that 800 plane CAP you need to throw in the kitchen sink, but that doesn't mean you need to carry it around with you all the time.

He has hit a few airfields and done some serious damage. That was early in the process, and I've (hopefully) learned just this lesson! [;)]

All IJAAF 2E are back in Tokyo. A good number of 1E are in Ominato, but are being dispersed gradually. After the major bombardments and the resulting 250-300 4E destroyed, the numbers won't be there to do the same kind of strikes he was able to mount for another few months.

Sapporo is pretty able to take care of itself now. he did try a daylight strike there recently and lost about 40 4E even after throwing everything he could into sweeps. The low CAP is pretty durable over a day or two and I can rotate groups in easily.

Right now I'm not going to sweep or strike at Shikuka by air. I'll wait for the moon and see if I want to try again with the IJN. The flak is so heavy it doesn't make sense to tackle it unless I know there are no fighters left or the field is closed.

Nicks and a few other fighters keep pecking away at the PTs. The Judys do find their prey, and as expected it's two YMS pickets.

Down South the shell game is keeping damaged fighters away from Allied bombing, and they're slowly repairing while a few other groups upgrade in Bangkok.

Near Prome the Allies try a sudden (and unprepared ) DA, with no aerial bombing ahead of time. It doesn't go well for them. It looks like it's just armoured units, and the incredibly experienced IJA units handle it easily. They're all dug in with forts 2 in this x2 terrain, and have good supply. There are a few IDs with mid-90s EXP here, and some good arty.

The Allied units lose about 130 devices outright, plus around 570 disabled. Mostly vehicles.

After the past few turns the Allies seem to be moving everywhere in Burma. Threatening to still cross from around Bassein and Prome, moving units from near Prome to South of Toungoo, and shocking across the river to South of Toungoo with three armoured units, where our stack kicked them hard.

The Allies did lower forts at Toungoo with a DA, but take the worst of the moderate disablements. I'm flying a few more troops in as the Allies seem to be walking more across as well. About 300 bombers a day are hitting Toungoo troops keeping the disruption up a bit, but also losing 5-7 a day to flak. This base is completely superfluous, and I hope to time a withdrawl so that I can get the most out of the forts and terrain, but not get the very experienced ID trashed.

I'll try a LR CAP on the 24th to see if these fighters, all rested up, can get to the bombers at all. Lots of sweeps still here, and LR CAP is not as effective for low CAP.

I could kick these armoured units out and probably destroy 1-2 of them, but I'm wary of the other Allied units appearing on that turn. I'm happy to let him come and give it a try. More AA here, and the adjusted defence of the river crossing was huge!

A few days to catch up on here.

The Allies are bombing with everything they have now in Burma. Sweeps aren't really huge, but I can't make much of an impact either. On the 24th I tried a LR CAP at Toungou that didn't work. The Allies got 2:1 on the day. Then it was back to a few days of rest and filling the groups out again.

On the 25th the Allies tried a DA at Toungou, but it only got a 1:12. I'll consolidate with a few more added troops here. I don't think he's got enough in any one spot to force a retreat any time soon. He's relying on the air force to disrupt and work down supply, but that isn't happening or anywhere near happening right now.

On the 26th the Allies go back into serious sweep mode in the North. This is all good for the Japanese. The defenders do well, getting a 1:1 until some late sweeps push the Allies to a slight positive. Their pilots have to be suffering though, as all of the combat is over our bases now. I sense a growing tension again in the North, and as the light increases, I'll prepare for another try at Shikuka. I'd like to give it a shot being prepared to lose a few BBs and lots of DDs and smaller craft. The possible strategic and VP gains would be huge, and the inevitable losses don't concern me much as long as the Allies lose some too. At this point in the game it's about "what can I get for my soon to be destroyed forces?" [;)]

It looks like the Allies are still coming cross just South of Toungoo. I'm curious if this will still be a shock. If it is those units will suffer.

The Allies recommence bombing the Kuriles. I like this. It's not a strategic target and I can pounce when I choose later. So far a lot of damaged and a few downed 4Es to ops losses. Only two bases still to get to forts 6 here, and I think they'll make it. It depends on how early the Allies move back in with CVs. It seems a sure thing that he'll go for more out here, but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe this is just suppression and a diversion, and the real target will be the HI, Korea and Manchuria. All potential targets are preparing.

A division and some other troops shock into the hex South of Toungoo. I would have expected a worse result for them getting a 1:72, but it'll take a while to recover, and this isn't enough to threaten the hex once healthy anyway.

The Allies land small force at Saumlaki. He wants another theatre open here, but this looks like a base force only. I'll try to get it back.

On the 28th a DA at Toungoo itself gets only a 1:13 and fails to further drop forts, which sit at level 4 now. Looking good for the moment.
