Hi. Quick question. Will the new version use the matrix pbem servers?

Will the Matrix version include the WWII in Europe and Franco-Prussian War scenarios that were included in the Battlefront version?

It comes with the editor, so there is no plausible way to keep it out. You could simply drop the campaign folder back in and voila.

I'm happy to see this come over, it was a great game in it's own right.

Hello Tarfman and Mixark80

Apologies for the late reply, busy times but I'm sorry for keeping you waiting

Unfortunately SC Classic WW1 does not use the Matrix PBEM servers - it would have been a lot of work to retrofit that functionality to this game

It does come with Franco Prussian scenarios (and the Balkan Wars, Russian Civil War etc. etc.) but not I'm afraid the WW2 in Europe one (I think that is the only one not included)

Ben,

Thanks for the response. I actually like the older method if only for the ability to engage a bit more with your opponent. I find the text box just a bit too small.

One further query. Will people with the Matrix release be able to play PBEM against the people that own the Battlefront Breakthrough 1.05 version?

Regards

Colm

Yes, people with the Matrix version should be able to play with those that own Battlefront Breakthrough v1.05 (that was one benefit from not updating to the Matrix PBEM system)

A decision I don't understand. With it you put the question "why?" on the table, and it looks as if you were ashamed about SC WW2 when you compare the game with the several years older WW2 campaign of SC WW1.

There is no reason to be ashamed. Well, ok, I stand corrected. I feel a bit ashamed, but only because of your decision to cut the campaign out of the game. With it you create exactly that kind of attention which you obvisouly wanted to avoid. No harm done with that, but you look not as good as you looked before, If I may say so.

Or is there anything you want to comment on this topic which may help to understand the reasoning why you think it was the best decision to cut the WW2 campaign?

The 1939 Storm Over Europe scenario is the best of the Strategic Command WW II scenarios at Battlefront. It competes more than favorably with any of the other square map grid WW II scenarios. But the Strategic Command WW II in Europe that is sold by Matrix is far superior with its hexgrid map and wouldn't suffer by comparison.

The 1939 SOE scenario is only one scenario, a pre-hexgrid prototype of what the game grew into. To get the flavor of the war you really need a separate scenario for each year (and that's true for WW I as well, sadly).

I'd be surprised if the decision to omit it was a marketing decision. If it isn't available through Matrix it won't detract from the sale of square map grid Fury products at Battlefront.

In any case I'm sure that if anyone really cares that much they'll post it as a mod for SC WW I Classic.

I've added this to the top post too but also adding here for clarity.

Battlefront are retiring all the old Strategic Command games from their store and we will be adding them to ours. This is the first of the old games to come across. It is the exact same game as released on Battlefront, just with their e-license system removed and our serial number system added. We'll also be adding the games to Steam and you'll get a Steam key from us.

We will be selling a Gold version that combines the base game and the Breakthrough expansion. Users who have the Battlefront version of the base and the expansion will get our Gold version for free. If you only owned the base game you'll be getting a 60% discount off of the Gold version.

Once you've registered your Gold serial to your Matrix/Slitherine account you'll be able to redeem a Steam key for the Gold version and play your games on Steam.

We will be supporting the Gold version, but we are not able to support the old Battlefront version as we don't know how it works or have any way to resolve issues.

If you need more information please feel free to ask!

Is a WWI version of the recent hex based Strategic Command WW2 War in Europe planned or in the works?
