Specialized commanders?

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Specialized commanders?

Post by Elessar2 »

[I finally spring for the thing, and the entire forum is deserted for the entire weekend...]

Anyway, I'd like to resurrect an old Battlefront wish we hashed out a bit c. 8 years ago. Specialized commanders.
No more single ratings, now they get either (a) One or more specializations: Tanks/Air/Logistics/Attack/Defense, or (b) specific ratings in each category.

Montgomery, for ex.:

Attack 4
Defense 9
Logistics 8
Air 5
Tanks 4
Infantry 7

Any thoughts?

Interesting idea, I've proposed air only HQ's in the past. I doubt logistics would be in there. People would then tend to group troops based on it which I'm not sure would be so good. Not certain it would be easy to program Attack/Defense readiness very easily.

That type of system results in not earning any of those parameters. With the current system, HQ's must earn and pay for effectiveness, which seems to me to be a better fit for this type of game.

I like army group having balanced unit compositions, that would reward doing the opposite.

Wow all very good ideas in my unwanted, unwarranted opinion.
I've been thinking the same that HQs should have unique skills & stats like in the first post. Or it could be simplified like Monty provides an extra +20% defense, morale & supply bonus (Monty was very solid, highly skilled leader in my worthless opinion) while Patton would be like +30% attack and -20% supply cause he said troops could survive just eating their leather belts as MREs and Patton kept attacking until every drop of gas was used up which is good for advancing but hard on supply.

IMO leader rating should be randomized and hidden. You'd figure out over time who's your stars and who's your clunkers over time instead of sacking people to upgrade to your best dude as soon as mpp allows.

Maybe there could be an option for you to choose historical leader stats or randomized when setting up games. I think people would tend to choose historical though. For me I would prefer historical leaders cause it feels good to have a powerful Patton or von Manstein commanding my armies instead of a random unknown leader that rolled high stats by chance.

ok .. so if they are specialized ..
shouldnt it be to limit what they can attach by points
as per unit type so an armor hq can supply 3 armor and a basic inf hq only 2 armor
air hq 3 air units attached and so on ...
up to 6 or 7 command and control as u advance to level 2
