RE: WotY Attempt #1
Near Chernigov the Soviets and I are negotiating about the Axis troops moving south east into Soviet territory and the talks have progressed to the point of pushing and shoving. They want a higher price than we think it's worth and so we're arguing over the price and it's been slowly coming down last turn and this one. I need to get on the east side of the river and start clearing out the Soviets grouped along the riverbank. There must be close to 25 or 30 divisions worth of units in there. Past experience tells me that they won't stay there long if I breech the river at D-town, but fortunately me getting D-town is for a fairly near future turn. In fact, my moving south from this spot may spook many of them.

The Soviets have started to ramp up their attacks and it's still only September.
We may be in for a bad winter season.

Larry,
88 attacks!!! Wow, that must take a while to watch the Russian turn. I found it hard watching the Allied attacks progress while doing the D-Day scenario. I was on the edge of my seat, hoping they would not cause too much damage.

As a matter of fact, it DID take a while to watch the Soviet turn. And they got two turns back to back and that was just icing on the cake for them.ORIGINAL: MikeJ19

This means you will get a back to back at some point. I love it when it goes that way!

I believe that's correct and I'm of the opinion that the regular 'me then you' process
is fine and that these two turns at a time business is something I could do without. I
suppose it makes the game more interesting and gives Elmer a chance to "catch-up" with
the human player. I think there's a switch somewhere to turn off the two turns in a row
but I'm not sure where it is.

RE: WotY Attempt #1
There's a hot spot to the NE of Kiev in which the Germans are attempting to
get on the SE side of the river to facilitate the ability to reach the favorable
terrain to speed the advance a bit. I've fallen behind schedule and need to
make up about half a turn, maybe a full turn. I'm not sure how far behind I
am because I'm not an expert of the German / Russian war. I'll see if I can't
find a webpage with the dates of progress of the advance and compare.

Here's a map that I found on the web. It's the advance as of August 25, 1941
and I need to crop my front lines map to this scale and compare the two
front lines to compare them.

RE: WotY Attempt #1
Okie dokie, I've pushed and shoved the front lines map into a roughly similar
size and shape of the official front lines map and I've found they are really
similar and it's harder to compare them than I thought. I'm using MSPaint and
don't have a way to post both of them on top of each other, etc. That's the
next thing I need to try.
Edit: I've discovered that the image is SOOOoooo large that it's going to
have to be viewed individually by you guys one at a time because of the
download time. It's a 24,000 by 3,000 pixels image.

RE: WotY Attempt #1
I've just discovered to my horror that there's a section of the front lines that is
denuded of major combat units and my light screen has been threatened by major Soviet
units and they are going to need some help, THIS TURN, or there's going to be a massive
breakthrough that will be especially hard to contain.

RE: WotY Attempt #1
According to the expected reinforcements dialog I've got about 17 more turns
to use the 1st Kav Division so I think I'll thrust them into the crimea area
to see how much they can clear out before they withdraw.

Larry,
I would find such a large map hard to follow and would have units in the wrong places so often. I have that problem on the smaller scale games that I'm playing.
Good luck filling the gap that you found...

RE: WotY Attempt #1
Hi Mike: I know what you mean. I found FITE2 has that problem. When playing that scenario I find myself constantly having to orient myself before I could move units to the right place. And Thomas Harvey has produced a monster scenario called Pacific At War 1941-1945 and he's included specific spots on the map that you can use the letter 'b' key to find quickly because the map is so big, one in Japan, one in Australia, and one in the USA, as I recall. It helped get to specific areas on the map fast. I use the letter 'b' key to find the places where the expected reinforcements will spawn because that tool will take numbers for the location, for example, instead of typing "Leningrad" you could type "140,123" and that will work too. Ralph did a good job on that.ORIGINAL: MikeJ19

RE: WotY Attempt #1
If you need an aide you can turn on "View - Formation Path". This will allow you to see the path that the German formation you select moved historically in 1941 to a good degree. After that there is little programmed for German formation paths.ORIGINAL: MikeJ19

You can do this on any scenario if the programmer set formation paths for the side the human player is playing.

RE: WotY Attempt #1
The Axis infantrymen are using the vehicles as cover as they rush across the
open ground from the quadrangle to the line of buildings facing east. One
of them has caught on fire from the shelling and the Germans expect the defenders
to come rushing out soon.

Here's how many battles I instigated this turn. I'm trying to make hay while
the sun shines. However the progress is pitifully small. A hex at a time.

Hey you guys...I tried to upgrade to the newest beta version there was for this game and it didn't work out so I need to drop back to a previous turn, one I can successfully load into the old version I was using so I may not post for a while, having to catch up to where we are now.
