A quick resolution is what I hoped for and it arrived very quickly. I expected the Australian units would mostly retreat but they do appear to have suffered grievously in doing so. Next order of the day is to get an AF unit into Milne Bay and get some proper fighter protection happening. Once that is in place I can move Kaga and friends out of this hot spot.

A Force Labor Unit arrives at Singapore (a nasty reminder of what goes on for the defeated during war. Not, however, what I particularly want to oversee. I appreciate though that LST has included these units in the OOB as it does bring an added dimension of realism to the game. I will let them rest up for a bit and then it is off to build railways for this unlucky lot.)

The American Invasion Fleet moves closer. If nothing else, apart from the eventual loss of the Marshall Islands, it shall give me a look at how Ed configures his invasion fleets. So far it looks to be the kitchen sink ensemble that is hard to touch.

Whilst the Allies move in on the Marshall Islands my forces move closer to Ceylon. My submarine reports some fine looking targets. Very tempted to move KB in and attempt to deal with these forces before the invasion gets underway. The second TF is reported as 4 ships with 2 CA on a south east bearing. Those ships sighted the previous turn heading towards Sabang have disappeared... must be out there somewhere. The cruiser TF sent to find them will continue searching.

An ominous development. The trailing convoy has a detection level of 7/7 and is perilously close to this Allied TF which has popped up. KB is falling back to cover this threat before the invasion at Koggala goes ahead. A couple of battleships are also ordered to provide support to the trailing TF should the Allied TF make moves towards the invasion TFs.

Already considering my options here and feel that this could become a battleground once the IJN regroups from the Indian adventure.

Clearly Ed was waiting for KB to show which, of course, they will have to for a big operation such as Ceylon/India.

I have learnt that the bulk of the RN is in the Pacific assisting the USN. Has the USN repaid the favour and sent warships over to India.? I'm fairly certain that all of the US and RN carriers are together in the Pacific. HMS Hermes appears to be at Colombo but she should have sailed, along with the rest of the herd, overnight.

As for the Marshalls. It is going to be a pain losing them early in the piece and they will make a great launch pad for other strikes. I have been much too neglectful of the defences in the Marshalls. I shall put that down to the on going preoccupation with feeding resources into the Home Islands. LST has put together a very demanding logistical situation for Japan. Perhaps it requires a rather different strategy than the one I have taken. And back to the Marshalls. They are a supply problem for either side at this time in the war. If I can get the fleet back together we might see some tussles in and around this island chain.

A good action by Kurita in atrocious weather conditions. A shame that 1 Allied torpedo found it’s mark. Takao has damage of 41 11(05) 01 00 so not too bad but she is going to have to find her way to a home for repairs. First reports of this Allied TF seem to have been the most accurate. What a powerful surface fleet on the loose. It has completely disappeared probably due to the weather giving it a helping hand. That would be why KB has left it alone.

The dominoes are falling fast in the Marshall Islands. With all of the Allied carrier strength gathered here in the one place will Ed be tempted to carry on and raid to the west? From what I have seen of his play so far I would not be surprised to see a continuation of the this current push. Then again will he be wary of the Japanese aerial threat and be content with this easy conquest.

I always try to keep count of how many ships I stuff into those surface TFs and make sure I come in with no more than 15. If anything my surface TFs usually come closer to 10 or less. One thing about taking on a new opponent is learning their style of play. I have already noted that Ed tends to go for the extra large surface TF. I think that has worked against him in this case which was aided by the poor weather and the Japanese getting the benefit of crossing the T. The initial combat was heavily skewed against Doresetshire and with her sinking at the same time as the light cruiser went down it was no surprise that a disengagement occurred. On the plus side it appears to me that Ed was searching for the invasion task force and if he had of found it and pounced this force would have caused much grief to me. As it is he still have some very decent ships at his disposal here and a successful invasion, without some portion of my force being mauled, is far from a certainty.

In a game where we are daily deciding the fate of our electron fighters recognition of the reality of warfare does not go astray. I've read plenty on how the game has increased players geographic knowledge. Including such units can spur us on to find out more about these units. I certainly wondered about putting them into rest mode to build up their morale knowing full well that there was precious little in the way of rest mode for each member of such units.

I just couldn’t resist the urge to race in and have fun with that supply convoy at Port Moresby. That Ed has the place packed with aircraft is well known and I should have placed Kaga and friends in a better supporting postion. Aoba is going to have to be scuttled with damage by days end recorded as 78 98(23) 47 (02) 78. She is gutted just as Mikuma was at Midway. At least Ed is going to have to wait to see confirmation come up that she is lost. Attention now turns to Furutaka. Not so badly hit but she has a fight on her hands. Damage is a 57 35(08) 20 22. If the fires can be doused, we can start to think about the voyage back to Japan. I can live with losing 1 crusier but 2 will make this a costly adventure. Catching another Allied TF at anchor was fun though.
