Fletchers crush the IJN DDs in this battle. The CAs aren't effective and left completely unescorted afterward. Yuck.

This battle was a rare positive for the IJN though. Santa Fe was damaged int he last bombardments, and I think took some solid 20cm shots and a torpedo. In this one the IJN CLs get in close and put another fish in her belly! Nice.

Here is the summary of actions. Again, epic, and this time the IJN can't make a breakthrough. A lot of DDs lost on the day. They just can't hang with the late war Fletchers and Sumners, even at night.

This made me question the plan to push the BBs in next. I changed orders about there times, but finally settled on it. If they can get through, it again gives some cushion against Allied bombing, and could set the Allied pools into the negative. It's worth the risk, and what other chances will I have? I also spotted some distant xAP TFs near the Aleuts. Moving West. I'm guessing this is the time the Allies will move the DS back in, so this may really be the last chance. Moonlight is 100% as well, so the best opportunity to not be decimated by Allied PTs.

I've increased the KB CAP and set them for close in 1 hex defence to cover BBs moving into Shikuka or out, but that's it. There is also some LR CAP from Wakkanai on the BBs. Here we go!

In other areas, the B-29s again hit the Kuriles, this time at Ketoi-Jima. It's very interesting which islands have been most targeted recently and previously. Ketoi, Onneketon and Paramushiro seem to be recent favourites. Does this mean those are future landing targets? Onneketon and Para have extensive CD guns and forts, both at level 6. Ketoi is at level 5 and trying to build up to 6, at about 55% now. There are about 950AV at Ketoi, about 1300AV at Onneketon, and almost 1500AV at Paramushiro. I'm so curious now whet the Allied plans will be. Regardless of the Shikuka bombardments outcome, I plan to sit back after that for a bit and see what happens, concentrating on building defences of Northern Honshu and Manchuria, which still need a bit more work.

The Chinese are still trying to break through in the mountains. Today one smallish Corps pushed over a river. The Chinese don't shock well, but this one was (not surprisingly) low on supply. Yep. I've tried bombing out there, and the DB/TB don't often fly, the low FB strafers don't hit much, and all of it gets nailed by the 850 plane CAP at Shikuka. In a VP sense it's not worth it, but if I were going in again, and had to do something, I'd find some more ways to hunt the fluff without using my BBs and CAs to do it.

In the game, the Momo-class converts to 'E'-class in 1943 and loses its torpedoes.

The Wakatake class also starts the game as DD in 1941, turns into an E in 1943, but keeps is torpedoes.

So in this case the torpedo came from either the Sanae or the Asagao.

The E that start being listed as TB (Tomozuro and Otori classes) do have torpedoes. Also some of the older DDs become E during refits; Momi, Momo and Waketake classes (I think). The Wakatake class (Sanae and Asagao) become E but still have the torpedoes.

None of these are long lances though. They have 53cm TT with a range of 8k yards. So they have to get in close. Very good against small craft and mercies. Very bad against the USN in late 44, as they get minced at close range. Still, they've done their job in this one.

In the game, the Momo-class converts to 'E'-class in 1943 and loses its torpedoes.

The Wakatake class also starts the game as DD in 1941, turns into an E in 1943, but keeps is torpedoes.

So in this case the torpedo came from either the Sanae or the Asagao.

It's taken me a while to post this turn, which happened a few days ago. it's a big one.

The BBs went in ...

... and after tangling with a few PTs (sinking 3-4) hit some Fletchers right away.

Inconclusive, but left some IJN DDs damaged.

Next up are the Allied cruisers. Since this is one hex out, they were low on ammo and went down quickly. [&o]

The DDs hit hard though, and even though the cruisers went under, this battle wasn't a win, and it led to some difficulty later. Still, better to get them than not get anything and be sunk later in port.
