German Destryed Units

Post by BK6583 »

Playing the D-Day Campaign as the Germans. I'm at my wits end about destroyed (surrendered) German units. They appear back all over the map assigned to OKW. They are of course depleted and at '0' TOE. Even when set to refit and say, 80% TOE, they sit there seemingly endlessly turn after turn after turn and never get any replacements. They can't move, can't be reassigned to a different HQ, and cannot be disbanded. What do I do with these units? It's been very frustrating to say the least. OKW also receives combat engineers and heavy pzjaeger units at '0' TOE. Even though they are set to 100% TOE, they also sit in OKW turn after turn, etc. and also never seem to get any replacements.

Probably because you have no replacements to give. In order for a unit to receive replacements you need to :

1) Set the unit to want replacments by refit/TOE%. This you did.
2) Ensure they are part of the supply network. Make sure they have a high priority for supply. Make sure they are on/adjacent to a depot that has freight.
3) Make sure you have replacements to give. Equipment/manpower must be in your active pool. You can check the production tab...click the Germans (top right) and then filter for active pools. (bottom right).

Probably you have no manpower. You can get manpower by disbanding units. You don't get a lot of manpower everyturn and will easily run out in 1944. You cannot keep everyone at full strength, and you won't be able to fix the problem easily when it is too late.

Manpower is a precious resource. So are trucks. Starting from the beginning of a scenario you have to decide what units should get replacements and which ones won't. Some units are good to disband all together...like all those ost units. Luftwaffe divisions. Reinforcements that show up that are at half strength. That sort of thing. Paratrooper divisions...mechanized divisions..these are good to have on high TOE. Infantry divisions...might as well put them on 80% (or lower).

Destroyed units will remain frozen for eight turns after they reformed.
