The Great War 1914-1918 me (Axis ) and Brian ( Allies )

Here's what Verdun looks like currently. Brian and I are still fighting over
the river crossings. I'm trying to repair the rail leading up to the front
lines to keep the supply levels at a peak. I've got only a single squadron
of planes, a mixed-type unit, and it's still in garrison mode or I would have
it flying too. I'm moving the arty up toward the front so it can support the
battles I'm ordering. So far so good.

One of the late patches improved the defense a lot (iirc fortification and terrain-boni were added). As a consequence, the low-prof-russian units evaporated, when attacking anyone. And even the germans were not able to break through against a dug-in-russian unit, even when using lots of artillery. It was a problem many scenarios suffered.

Hey there Cfant dude....thanks for the info. I haven't really engaged the Russians yet so I don't have any experience in combat with them. I'll watch for any anomolies, per your report. Thanks.

The British sailed some troops across the channel and have taken up positions
on the front lines near Antwerp and I suppose I'll have to deal with them now.

EDIT: The documentary suggests that the British wouldn't have entered the war but
for the fact that the Germans invaded their ally Belgium. I'd like to see a what-if
scenario with that theme.

Not sure if the Brits had stayed out of the war, when a german victory was in sight... a german hegemony was not in British interests.

However, Germany asked, prayed and threatened Belgium to allow german troop movement until a few minutes before the attack to prevent a violation of Belgium neutrality and so hoping that Britain would stay out of the war. A few hours or days before the decleration of war, the Kaiser even thought about a change of strategy - defense in the west, all in in the east against Russia. Although his railway-experts thought it to be possible, High Command did not have the nerves to change the plan so short before execution.

In hindsight, it would have been worth the risk. Austria-Hungary could have avoided the early defeat of Przemysl and therefore be a stronger partner in the east...

However, Feldmarschall Larry will be in Paris in 40 days or so Onward to victory!

Hey there Cfant dude, thanks for the exposition. I had no idea. WW1 isn't my area of expertise and I'm learning all the time about this conflict. And last turn the Allies attacked me with their planes.... an airstrike. How rude. I'll have to develop my own plan of attack to include aircraft.

Sorry everybody....it looks like this game is going to be abandoned because it's too big and time consuming
for real world conditions currently. I think maybe it's because I let Elmer move my units for one turn,
the last turn I did, but maybe not. Brian IS in a special situation, I admit.

At any rate we're going to drop back to something smaller and shorter and something I've been
working on lately for a fun scenario that also is relatively realistic: my B41 mod v.5.6 which is
specifically designed to be more fun than v.5.5 even. I've playtested it briefly and Brian is going to
help me playtest the Soviet side so I can see if it's still balanced at all. So thanks for reading this
far <waves hands> and I bless you with my wargammers blessing that all your games will be especially funfull.
