This new battle of Midway will heavily suffer from comparison with the 1976 movie, which was actually a great movie, and cannot see what this new version can add more...
Taking about comparison, and why original version is always better, as an example with the Dunkirk Nolan movie, i would recommand you to watch the 1964 movie 'weekend at Dunkirk', originally named 'week end a Zuydcoote', i am sure you can find a version in English somewhere....

A very interesting subject for a new war movie would be about Operation Catapult, an event almost forgoten during the war but which could make a real good plot : lot of suspens, drama and action, and i am sure you can add a love story between a british naval officer and a french woman whom brother is serving in the french navy...
