SU assisting in fort construction is still bugged.

Post by Joneleth »

I ran a test on 1.11.01 yesterday, I had an HQ with 100 sapper regiments 100 construction battalions and 100 RR brigades, got 9 adm leader on it and had it within 3 hexes of the front line with enemy supplied units.

made 2 forts, one was attached toe the aforementioned HQ the other wasnt, both of them had near identical slow construction speeds.

I repeated the test with 2 actual divisions and the result was the same. SU doesnt assist in fort construction.

EDIT: both tests i ran over 5-8 turns, and the forts were in ready status.

HQ can send only 1 SU to 1 combat unit digging trenches. Up to 3 HQs in chain may send them if they are close enough.
At low fortification levels you won't gain much from SUs, because you're reaching the limit of maximum possible fortification level increase (per hex).
Also, higher levels require a lot of supplies and will not be built if there are no supplies nearby.

@Joneleth: Do you have before/after saves of your tests? If yes, would you mind sending them by E-Mail (see your PM)?
There are many possibilities for errors in those tests.
1) City population helping.
2) On map units have uneqal construction values.
3) Leader rolls

@morvael: So only HQ can only provide one SU? Can a construction SU be sent to multiple units in the same turn? How far away can higher HQs be at max to send construction units?

One SU from one HQ to one unit per turn.
Each SU may help only once per turn.
I think the range is in multiples of 5 (5, 10, 15) but I'm not 100% sure of that. It can be more for higher level HQs. I would have to check this in the code.

Thank you morvael!
Is there a chance that in a future update we can set a support level for engineers/construction units manually? Because under the current system, it is nearly impossible to distribute construction units evenly (so every level can contribute 1 unit) as they are always thrown around by this annoying, fixed support level of three for construction units.

Good information, didnt realize it was limited to 1 per unit in assistance. Means my typical strategy of just 2 sapper regiments per army really isnt enough digging augmentation in key areas but by stocking an extra 2+ at the front level can help alot.

I've always played with LOCKED setting and redistributed my engineers manually.

Morvael:

Just to be clear the limit is one SU per HQ supporting one unit and not each SU can support one unit but an HQ can have multiple SUs each supporting a unit? So if you had three construction battalions in an HQ the other two would be wasted? If multiple SUs can each support a unit how many different SUs be used, and units helped, from a single HQ? Is there a cap?

So if you have 3 construction units in an army HQ, 3 in a front HQ and 3 in Stavka, all within five hexes would that enable helping up to 9 units by one construction unit each or would a unit be able to get one support each from different level HQs?
Or 3 units total (One per level of HQ)?

Interesting stuff. Not mentioned in the manual I'll ammend it.

According to the manual you're correct about range, each HQ must be within 5 hexes of each other and only three level of HQs can assist.

I do have one question regaurding Sapper Rgts. They have all gone by about Nov/Dec 41? I do have Bns and Eng-Sapper Bdes and can build both, but no Rgts. There's no mention of them disbanding, as I assume this is what has happened, in the manual and I did check to see if they have been lost in combat and the answer to that is, no.
