Am 22 Juni 1941 um 3.15 Uhr nachts begann die Deutsche Wehrmacht das Unternehmen Barbarossa, den Angriff auf die Sowjetunion. Hitlers Angriff auf die Sowjetunion erfolgte nicht alleine aus einer plötzlichen Eingebung heraus, sondern gemäß seinem alten Ziel, den Bolschewismus zu bekämpfen und dem deutschen Volk neuen Lebensraum zu verschaffen. Ausschlaggebend war aber auch die Erkenntnis, daß er England nicht besiegen konnte und darum seine Kriegspläne ändern mußte. Am 14 Juni 1941 erklärte Hitler daher seinen Generälen in Berlin, unter den gegebenen Umstände könne nur ein Sieg auf dem Kontinent den für Deutschland erfolgreichen Ausgang des Krieges bringen, und somit sei der Angriff auf die Sowjetunion unvermeitlich. Am 22 Juni 1941 schließlich überschritt die Wehrmacht die Memel - den Fluß, den Napoleon genau 129 Jahre früher überquert hatte. In dieser Campagne übernehmen sie die 2 Panzer Gruppe General Heinz Guderian im Frontabschnitt Heeres Gruppe Mitte Generalfeldmarschall von Bock.
On June 22, 1941, at 3:15 am, the German Wehrmacht launched Operation Barbarossa, the attack on the Soviet Union. Hitler's attack on the Soviet Union did not come about out of a sudden inspiration, but in accordance with his old goal of fighting Bolshevism and giving the German people new living space. Decisive, however, was the realization that he could not defeat England and therefore had to change his plans for war. On June 14, 1941, Hitler therefore declared to his generals in Berlin that given the circumstances, only a victory on the continent could bring about the successful outcome of the war for Germany, and thus the attack on the Soviet Union would be immeasurable. On June 22, 1941, the Wehrmacht finally crossed the Memel - the river that Napoleon had crossed exactly 129 years earlier. In this campaign they take over the 2 Panzer Group General Heinz Guderian in the front section Army Group Center Field Marshal von Bock.
