I would defend behind the river North of Moulmein and at Pegu. Pegu would be just to cover the left flank. If the position North of Moulmein becomes a problem then withdraw from Pegu and the other base to the hex to the east of Rangoon. In both cases Sid will have to cross a river to attack you....GP

I will de defending that hex. Sid said IIRC in an email that the 15th Army was already on the move. The 18th division and the "mighty" Chinese should be arriving more or less by the end of the month.

12/08/41,

All was quite from SoPac to Alaska. Except for enemy sub attacks near PH, Vancouver and San Diego. I lost a few ships but the rest got thru.

I was expecting the KB to hit Pearl again. I'm glad he didn't as my CAP was destroyed the day before. But I did save half of the battle fleet. I will send them to the west coast for escort duty.

I'm now moving shorter range Tankers and xAK's to Balboa. From there the ships will go where needed for movement of goods.

The 41st ID is moving by rail to LA. From there to New Caledonia on a defensive mission. Hopefully before Sid lands and takes the bases.

Stay tuned....GP

Most of the action in my area was in the PI. He did not invade any new bases and I was able to get one good PT encounter that sank an xAK. Two or three others delayed his unloading, which is good.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Sn Frnando & Bauang at 80,74, Range 10,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
APD IJA Tachikaze
APD IJA Shimakaze
APD IJA Nadakaze
TB Kaki
TB Sumire

AM W-14
xAK Aso Maru #3
PB Kiso Maru
CM Nanpo Maru
CM Tsubame
PB Kyo Maru #2
xAK Nagara Maru
xAK Sydney Maru #2, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
xAK Okuyo Maru
xAK Seikai Maru
xAK Yomei Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
xAKL Fukuei Maru
xAKL Korei Maru

Allied Ships
PT-39
PT-40
PT-41
PT-43

Japanese ground losses:
2375 casualties reported
Squads: 54 destroyed, 24 disabled
Non Combat: 66 destroyed, 42 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 10 (4 destroyed, 6 disabled)
Vehicles lost 10 (10 destroyed, 0 disabled)
-----

Two Dutch subs put a single torpedo into two xAKs off of Malaya.
Ternate fell today. There is one large CVTF to the East of Luzon and it sank a few ships
fleeing from the PI. That is to be expected.

Here is what the PI looks like now:

There's many different things to the OOB. I would suggest downloading the mod as there's to much to describe here. It's a very different mod. There is a library of documents to read which cover everything that is different and then some. Really cool stuff....GP

re China

Not sure this makes a lot of sense. Japanese are clearly concentrated, the spearheads started moving on the 8th or 9th. They have of course excellent infrastuctures, but he would have needed minimum (packing, moving, unpacking) one week to concentrate his hordes. This means he can cheaply -and cowardly- assault some frontline bases. What a troll!

And the Chinese? The war "starts" the 7th december, but China is fighting since 1937. And yet for some weird cosmic force the units are basically scattered, many of them in the rear, where they are absolutely worthless.

Needless to say, passivity is not my strong point. The units won't sit back watching the armaggedon. It's going to take time -I guess one or two months- but the basic principle of war needs to be implemented yesterday: concentration of forces.

Sid is clearly pushing in the general NE area: Yenan - Sian. In the center or Hankow area he's apparently deploying his units around the bases (he's thinking about defence would be my wild guess).

I have deployed air units forward, a mix of Chinese and AVG detachment fighters (/A, /B, /C). Looks like the amateurish Chinese pilots and their Soviet made machines can actually kill. Long may it continue! I plan to bring [Chinese] bombers and start harassing (bombing and recon) the enemy clowns.

Waiting until everyone is well trained is a beautiful idea on paper or ... if you can afford it. In WitE this would mean Germans might get to Vladivostok by er Christmas '41. A brilliant strategy no doubt. The thing is I will fight to the last drop of blood of my pixel Chinese e-truppen. And let the cyber god sort them out.

Sid added new fighting units here and there but the OOB is basically the same.

Worth mentioning. I did not calculate it but I would say overall there might be less aviation support (I'm thinking about the juggernaut = the US). If you're familiar with Da Babes mod, you know the elegant method they used: every air group has a group base force + the Marines group HQs.

RHS has on the other hand lots of US Army Base Forces, each with 200 support squads.

Air units is a different story. Many many new air units (US and Australia). Rear area but they will produce tons of trained (specific skills) pilots.

To continue with TDs troll theme. Here is a typical airborne "invasion." It looks like 33 troops took control of a 46 mile hex.

Ground combat at Tabuk [Mines] (81,73)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 33 troops, 3 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Japanese adjusted assault: 3

Allied adjusted defense: 1

Japanese assault odds: 3 to 1 (fort level 3)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Tabuk [Mines] !!!

Combat modifiers
Attacker: shock(+), leaders(-)

Assaulting units:
1st Raiding "Force" Rgt /3

Sorry for not posting boys and girls. No excuse...................

Anyway, things are pretty quite in the SoPac thru the East edge. except for the sub contact or two. Still moving ships and setting up troops for the SoPac area (3 Bases on Fiji and Pago Pago).
I have decided to setup 3 supply hubs. Xmas Island>Vava'a>Auckland. From Auckland Bill can draw Supplies/Fuel, Resources/Oil(if needed)

The Allied Team is putting out turns fairly quickly. Which is good.

Not a lot happening in the middle either. I am trying to get my air units out of the PI and back to either OZ
or the DEI. I am getting hammered by Sids air based in Formosa. My PT boats are doing some good work in the PI,
not a lot of sinking, but they are interrupting his unloading which is slowing his advance some.

In the Solomons I was able to get this intercept:
Night Time Surface Combat, near Kieta [Bouginville] at 110,130, Range 11,000 Yards

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
E13A1 Jake FR: 7 destroyed

Japanese Ships
PB Koei Maru, Shell hits 6, and is sunk
CS Kamoi, Shell hits 16, and is sunk

Allied Ships
CL RAN Adelaide

Unfortunately CL Adelaide ran into another intercept:
Night Time Surface Combat, near Kieta [Bouginville] at 110,130, Range 10,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Shiratsuyu
DD Shigure
DD Yugure
DD Ariake

Allied Ships
CL RAN Adelaide, Shell hits 9, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk

But it was a good trade.

Still shipping fuel, oil, and resources back to OZ to feed its industry.

More China

The reason I have deployed air units forward in China (Chinese + AVG fighters) is really simple. I gathered the Chinese riverine fleet in key places. And this is where the fighters are based. vs the AI I ignored this fleet and they were basically annihilated one by one in the different ports. That's why I need to concentrate them, simply to survive (I cannot defend everywhere, that's impossible). But sooner or later Sid might divert air units (with new deadly models -as he already did in SW China-) to deal with the problem. I don't think I will get too far with the Soviet made machines (a bonus: they have armour).

In theory now the best Chinese fighter should be the CW-21 Demon: already being produced (4 per month). But the truth is the US machines and pilots are making the difference (as it should be).

As I said before, I am concentrating forces and it will take time. Meanwhile, his already concentrated hordes are simply untouchable.

But west of Shanghai he was too bold IMO. One Japanese regiment advanced ready to challenge one Chinese corps (and another one was arriving). First round, he madly attacked and was trashed: 71 combat squads disabled.

I did not doubt = deliberate attack on next turn and trash these clowns. Which was obviously done, as they fled. Chickens!

This may be interesting. We exchange emails and Sid openly writes about the Japanese strategy.

"Mifune and I defined a strategy which would not focus too much on China. But aggressive behavior has forced me to change the plan - units designated for the SRA in China, and units in Manchukuo or Korea designated for the SRA [...] will divert to China for the moment - to insure rapid overrun of the critical areas near Japan that would be useful feeding resources and supplies, and terrible as Allied bomber bases. Which is the opposite of our intention. But - no - letting sleeping dogs lie was not the policy of the China commander."

One thing is certain: when the war will be over, I plan to appoint Sid as the Director of the Beijing Comic Opera. If he accepts that is.

His points confirm my points. Passivity is a bad strategy, agressivity (which has nothing to do with suicidal operations) pays lots of dividends. It massively did in WitE, and the scenario is basically the same. An apparent juggernaut (Wehrmacht, Japan) vs weakest units + lousy command (Red Army circa Barbarossa, the Chinese).

In this game, he's already talking about diverting units to China, which is necessarily good news for the other theatres. Needless to say, that's why FDR wanted to keep the Chinese alive.

One possibility is that these are mere mind games. Maybe he wants the Chinese Clown-in-Chief (that is me) to do nothing whilst he swallows chunks of land. If I were him, I would not hold my breath, and above everything else, I would watch my back.

Literally

But I suspect Sid is quite frank. He's also mentioned that he prefers concentrated forces, attacks (exactly like me), and that the new Japanese player he's recruited wants -and apparently convinced him: why? And how?- a "general" offensive. An error in my book but time will tell.

More China redux

So far I launched just one attack (the trashed regiment above or "yesterday").

His Excellency Comrade Chiang ordered more of the same, please. This time a Japanese brigade was caught in the open, southeast of Nanchang (their destination, as they were on the move).

Like before two Chinese corps* (+ one Army Group HQ = Corps HQ) were present. According to intel the ratio was 1:1 but oh well, this is not some posh tennis match. The war dogs were unleashed and the thing is this time an enemy brigade was forced to flee... again. Chickens everywhere

[center]Ground combat at Ying T'an [EChina] (85,55)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 20294 troops, 157 guns, 4 vehicles, Assault Value = 623

Defending force 5518 troops, 58 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 205

Allied adjusted assault: 594

Japanese adjusted defense: 104

Allied assault odds: 5 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: leaders(+), preparation(-), experience(-)
Attacker: morale(-)

Japanese ground losses:
1594 casualties reported
Squads: 38 destroyed, 50 disabled
Non Combat: 63 destroyed, 25 disabled
Engineers: 2 destroyed, 3 disabled
Guns lost 18 (5 destroyed, 13 disabled)
Units retreated 1

Allied ground losses:
473 casualties reported
Squads: 2 destroyed, 29 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 2 disabled

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

Assaulting units:
NRA 21st Corps
Szechuan 50th Corps
32nd Army Group

Defending units:
12th China Pack C Brigade[/center]

I hope this definitely convinces him to divert forces to China.

*I need to organise the Chinese army. Every single fighting unit (the two corps above too) are attached to War Areas. And there are indeed several Corps HQ. But I will need many thousands of PPs to do this. And I insist, China is just a sideshow, other fronts are prioritary. The thing is the units should be less effective, as I'm missing combat bonuses.

PS: in theory -unless Sid changed the parameters for this game- we get 500 PPs per turn

I would not spend precious PP to reorganize the Chinese. Once fighting stabilizes you can slowly take time to move single units here and there to the place their War Area HQ is, or, if it is more efficient, move the War Area HQ to where most of its sub-unit are and then start moving out the units that do not belong there.
I did this over the period of about a year and a half and still was able to conduct operations with the units best-aligned with their HQs.

But you seem to be able to be more aggressive in this mod so my suggestion might not fit your plans.
