What is the difference when an aircraft is spotted, sighted or observed?
AFAIK, nothing. Of more significance:

"Allied aircraft sighted over *******" means a low level of detection and little chance it was shot down by flak.
"Allied (aircraft type) sighted over *******" means better detection and a small chance it was shot down by flak.
"(exact aircraft model) sighted over *******" means very good detection/ID, and a clear shot at it for flak = much greater risk it was shot down.

Very nice to sink CA Mogami so early in the game! Too bad you couldn't nail the other cruiser TF.

May still get lucky with subs that CA have to pass through. Also all ships in the TF took damage and probably very low on fuel
