A friendly reminder is to pair up Corp/Army HQs with Command HQs for prepping for potential tough bases to capture. The Americans have plenty of Command to go with the Indian Corp HQs. The 90% increase in adjusted AV might come in handy at a few bases.

Thanks! I will be looking at HQs now after spending a good two turns re-prepping ALL infantry, armor and most arty and engineer units for next level targets.

I've started prepping for everywhere, but only a few landing bases with other units ready to come in as a second wave if I choose that particular vector. I don't have enough AP/AK/AMC right now for big landings, so I have to pick bases that aren't well defended first.

For the PI I've only prepped a few units for bases on Mindanao, but on Luzon I'll have the luxury of landing at Manila and walking to (potentially) flank Japanese positions.

One of the critical elements of my current plans is to not take on difficult entrenchments in big bases with good defensive terrain. I'd like to engage them, sit enough there to take the base should the Japanese retreat, and then move around them. Kluong is a good example now. He has 1,400AV of his best divisions trapped, with little supply, and engaged by less than their number but unable to do anything about it. I can now even take out a few more key units to use elsewhere.

Since subs seem to have better chances when the enemy ends up in the same hex after movement, I would place subs in the hexes four and eight away from KB. Or if you figure it will be slowed down by following transports, three and seven hexes. Not all hexes at those ranges, just the ones on likely paths to his next destination.

A new month. A new plane! The production line for P-38s is now on, for good starting with the P-38F on a run of 80 over two months! That is seriously good news. I've been holding them back and shepherding those scant few P-38E airframes of the first six months, and there is still a fully operational fighter group flying the P-38E. It's the single most important reason this game has turned in the way it has, even more than the Russians, IMHO. The Japanese should always be able to take Singers, but without being able to control the air, it didn't happen, and the Allies have built off of that.

Now come the tough few months of Tojo supremacy. I'll get the P-40K next month too though, so all groups eventually will have improved tools.

The Japanese go for Sambas with their big BBs on the first. It messes up the fields a bit, and the troops aren't happy, but I don't see how he can follow up on that. It seems like a one off where he could get a lick in. On the way back to Kuching the S-37 hits Nagato with one peentrating shot. There are a lot more subs waiting for those ships whenever they decide to leave again, so hope they're slowed just a bit.

On the ground nothing major happens, but troops are moving to Georgetown to continue reducing the IJA there and also toward Kota Baru. I'd like to take that base and then slowly walk to Kuantan overland on the coastal yellow road to take it next.

A lot more action on the 3rd. Sweeps hitting nearly every position or base on Indochina. At Kompong the zeros came, got hit pretty hard, then had a slight edge in the next two sweeps. Finally the todos arrived and cleaned up. The Allied CAP needs some help, so the P-38s will arrive tomorrow. Good to get this first big round out of the way before they come in actually and let them boost the next battles after the Japanese have taken some losses. I hope, anyway.

The Dutch armor is hit but the US Army ID moves toward Pnom Peng without much trouble. The attack will come in two days if all remains the same.

On Malaya the reduction of Japanese troops continues as two stacks are attacked. The path is now open to move on Kota Baru, and our forces will be there in two days. At Georgetown the remains of the Taiping stack are beaten up and surrounded. Won't be long there.

Two major ops are happening tomorrow. I'll land at Victoria Point with a Commonwealth Brigade. It's all I have prepped and looked like enough until the Japanese began using that as their primary transport base to remove pieces of Malayan troops. No idea how much is there now, but some was shown moving toward Champion, so maybe it'll be out as we land.

Secondly, but more importantly, I'll try to bombard Cam Ran Bay and Saigon on the way to landing at Quinhon. The paras will attempt to take the base the day before the am-hubs arrive, but again, no idea if that will be enough. I have an Indian brigade also prepped.

The KB is moving with the BBs from Borneo but unless they flank in should not interfere.

Yuck. The IJN BBs do flank in and connect with the USN cruisers after they'd bombarded. Damn. Lost four CA. This is a serious setback, and isn't much mitigated by the success of other battles on the day. Our light cruisers tag teamed a TF with CA Aoba and CL Nagara near Saigon, and left both in sinking condition.

The bombardments did shut down Cam Ran Bay airfields and got a lot of aircraft. Saigon is still open and dangerous. My dilemma now is whether to continue to Quinhon or make for the PI. I have troops ready and in these Bfs that I'd planned for each area. Lots of AA and engineers plus some armor for the PI, and a brigade plus armor, base forces, engineers and AA for Quinhon.

I have two BB TFs, and the small KB, three hexes distant, is lightly protected now since the BBs are still there and haven't replenished. I could run my BBs in but that is the most risky option, obviously. I'm feeling I still have enough to complete these missions. I'll try to take Quinhon by para-drop tomorrow and set the carriers and all to follow BBs out toward the PI, so still leaving an option to turn in and be at the Indochina coastline in two days.

Japanese air losses are high for the turn, but I'd of course trade all of those for a few cruisers back right now. The next months will be interesting. I do have a large navy still operating in the area, but as Japan's repaired ships return, things could get dicey. I have to do as much as possible to solidify land positions and get troops and supply in place before that happens. The PI and Indochina are the current priorities. If I can create a supply bridge between Malaya and Indochina, the it's possible I could even link in China eventually. Burma is also in doubt for the Japanese, and I could get the supply going from there to China. Either of those ways of getting the Chinese involved early would be a major achievement by the end of the year.

Okay. The IJN retreats. No fireworks on the oceans for the 5th. The Allied fleets move NE as planned and are spotted but not challenged by air strikes.

The major development on the day is that the Marine paras, putting in hard work here after taking Kompong only a week before, now jump and take Quinhon! With this secured I've made the decision to move all TFs in to land and drop the intended troops off there in two days. by the time I get there my other cruiser TFs should be able to reload from some xAKEs just placed at Patani and Kompong Trach and race back in. That will give enough surface cover to take on whatever the Japanese have coming.

The Japanese send i just enough to disrupt CAP at Kompong and Vals get in to sink one small RN CL. Damn.

The landing at Victoria Point goes in successfully, but it doesn't look like we have enough to take the base. At least this move would keep those troops there, and they wouldn't be able to kick us out, so other landings can hopefully go in and make their position less tenable.

The Allied fleets will now move NW toward Quinhon and aim to land troops on the 7th. The paras should be fine until then.

I thought the BBs would be sure to head there to rearm, and I've had subs there before without so much carnage. He must have dropped more mines.

Luckily these are the less powerful Japanese mines, so none of the subs is in sinking condition. I am fine with playing fast and loose with the subs though as the VP ratio of sub losses to even one CV or BB sinking is very advantageous. I'd be happy to lose 10 if I got 4-5 hits on Akagi. [:)]

Knowing they are there now I might send a few DMS or AM in on the way back to detect and reduce the fields. Cam Ran Bay and Saigon are important early Japanese naval bases and if I can limit their usability now that would be a big plus for the Indochina campaign.

Here are the August 5 air losses.

The Japanese lose a lot of Netties that tried to hit the fields at Kompong Trach unescorted. Must be a multiple base weather issue or something. A good 9 Tojos also destroyed, which is nice. The P-38s are holding the fort now and it's okay to dip into the remaining pool now that the F model is producing.

Scratch one flattop!! Granted, I'd thought it a goner before, so credit Lowpe for saving her. The Shoho is hit this turn by the 4Es from singers flying a LR mission to Saigon. I had noticed the CAP awn to 25 planes, and it seems the much larger CAP here is flying from one of the nearby bases and bleeding. They're also set to defend sweeps up high, so the 4Es had a good shot and hit pay dirt with 4 x 500lb hits on Shoho. Even in good shape that would do some critical damage, but I think now she's definitely a goner. [8D]

The I-11 hit crippled CL Achilles and sank her off of Soc Trang. I like this class so that was a hard blow. Too many cruiser losses lately.

The CVs and fleet move to within a day's steam of Quinhon, and will land a bunch of troops on the 7th barring IJN interference. Two cruiser TFs can rejoin by then to add to the four surface TFs now with the fleet.

After the successful landing at Victoria Point the cruisers try to weaken the Japanese troops there and limit use of the fields with two more bombardments. They're hit by strikes in the day and Cormwall takes a hit, but is fine and will proceed to Singers for repairs. All forces will shift forward to Indochina now and the mop ups on Malaya will continue with the capture of Kota Baru in a few days. Three divisions are resting up in Singers and will transfer to Kompong Trach once the area is secured and more stable following the Quinhon action. Within about two weeks I'd like to have one 1,000+ AV force marching on Saigon and another up toward Bangkok before too many more Japanese forces rally to the cause.

I'll be upgrading some new 4E groups to the B-24D that is now producing, and these will move with the current groups to mid-Malaya, most likely at Alor Star once it makes size 5 fields. Bangkok will then be in range and I'll try to debilitate that and other larger air bases in the area while the Japanese focus on indochina.

Phnom Penh falls today, which is good. Now to solidify the base with some engineers and get these troops some rest before moving to Saigon.

Los a few B-17E to get to Shoho, but also took down a lot of zeros on the day, again. The Japanese are now going through a lot of planes and suddenly have 300+ losses to the Allies where they were about even a month ago.

After what was mostly a quiet turn, suddenly a massive mave of sweeping zeros appeared over the Allied carrier group. I noticed also that the CVs reacted two hexes toward the KB and away from the BBs. That didn't make me feel good.

The CAP did well against the sweepers though, and after about 20 had been shot down for only 3 losses, the bombers appeared behind and were immediately jumped. Our 60+ Vals and Kates arriving, only 6 made it through to attack, and they were beset by flak and couldn't land a hit. The CAP then shot the rest down on the way out. [&o]

These pilots are now very experienced and the mix looks right for the time being. This battle, like many in the war, was won by early warning. Thanks to the plethora of radar sets in the fleet the warning time was 30 minutes. The high CAP descended, and the low CAP rose, and everyone was scrambled and waiting when the zeros arrived.

This should let the Allies unload at Quinhon. I had thought the amphibs would make it last night, but were one hex short. I will send them all in tomorrow and I've set up three BB TFs and three cruiser TFs and hopefully the CVs will run to one hex behind. I'm putting some CAP in Quinhon hoping the support and supply will land overnight. The CAP will be on 1 hex bleed her the BBs. He could send LBA onto the CVs and try again. I also see some that were not in action nearby, with 75 fighters and 44 bombers listed.

Elsewhere the troops at Georgetown finally reduced the remains of the 21st ID. That means they'll move on Singora. Then to Indochina I think. Kota Baru should fall tomorrow. I'l be heavily bombing Temuloh and Kluong as well to keep trying to reduce he possibility of troops flying out.

Here is the situation. If I can unload what I need here and get out, then the CVs and surface ships will retire to regroup and link with ships heading to resupply the PI. I'll of course have to see the IJN reaction.

I have kept the strike planes on a short ether, although they are set to strike. Last run it was at 2 hexes though in case a surface force dares to come near! I just don't want to lose all of my punch in one shot again against the KB when it's reduced and doesn't seem to be able to get through the Allied CAP. I may change this up depending on circumstances though, and with the strike yesterday, I'm wondering how much CAP he had up? If 120 zeros swept there weren't too many more back on the KB to fly CAP.

That is honestly in my opinion - very aggressive posturing of your carriers in 1942.

I mean Buffalo's are rising to CAP.

The results read off like a January 45 Combat summary - Georges vs F6F5 Hellcats and Corsairs - not Mid Late 1942 - F4F3 Wildcats and Buffalos'

I realize you are unloading supply - but is Singapore in an of itself producing sufficient supply to support so many landings ? Do you have enough ships to carry the supply ?

It is about this time of game many xAK start upgrading AA defense and guns... are you delaying ?
