Hard to believe you will react -as you did- when someone (me) says what every true, genuine football fan knows: that Maradona is one of the greatest and that his goal was the goal of the century... Nah, you need to diminish this genius... Nice try.

You certainly praised Mourinho's ways on these very forums...
You've got to HAND it to Maradona.

There you go again. So you are a true, genuine football fan, and everyone not agreeing with you, apparently, is not. [8|]

And I do not agree with your multiple, negative, statements about Mourinho. That does not make a me a fan.

Although it is apparent that you are a fanboy of Maradona. And therefore your idol made no wrong. And he simply must be best because you idolize him. Or what?

And that his goal was the goal of the century is certainly debatable. And, in my humble opinion, very short-sighted.

Those who think football players are Salvation Army soldiers are truly deluded.

What Liverpool's Robbie Fowler did in 1997 is just utterly exceptional:

The final round of games in Group E are now complete.

Brazil 2 Serbia 0. An enjoyable game to watch. Serbia had their chances but Brazil were much more clinical. Brazil started slowly in this tournament but they are now stepping up their game. Brazil top the group.

Switzerland 2 Costa Rica 2. Not the game I watched apart from the last few minutes. Costa Rica mad a game of it apparently. Switzerland finish in second place.

The last sixteen pairings then:- Brazil v Mexico and Switzerland v Sweden.

Best wishes,
Steve

Brazil vs Mexico - tasty

Sweden vs Switzerland - a great chance for one of these 'less celebrated*' European nations to progress. So pleased for Sweden. They had a really tough qualifying group, the toughest play-off draw and then a really bad World Cup group. They've overcome them all - don't blow it against the Swiss!

*Sweden would be classed in that way but, had they won their home World Cup and not come second, their record would actually be better than England's....

Let's see...

On one side there is Spain and Belgium (big names and good players). Croatia too (= talent, and talent is what buys you titles; in The Twilight Zone coaches do that). On the other side, all the big names: Portugal, France, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, England and Mexico...

It's going to get ugly and bloody on that crowded chicken coop. I predict hilarious massacres, very enjoyable matches

I still think Spain won't get too far (weak defence, the attack less incisive: this side is not like the magnificent, full of talent 08-10-12 team: Xavi is indeed missed). Belgium should make it to the final.

Say Shunwick, this thing with Denmark and France being worse than any other teams... sounds personal, not very neutral or professional.
The France Denmark game was an obscenity. That is why I am not happy with either team. Both teams have superb players and they conspired to serve up a plate of tripe.

Best wishes,
Steve

Well I agree that the game was not the most watchable, but both teams were thinking strategically (advancing to the knock-out tournament) while you are asking them to be tactical (play an exciting game). The Danes should have been more aggressive, especially during the last 10 minutes where they were certain to advance, no matter if they lost... but some or perhaps even most of the blame should lie on the French shoulders, who showed up with a team playing with 6 reserves!
I did not call the France - Denmark game an obscenity because they failed to produce an exciting game. I called it an obscenity because it was a dishonest game in the mould of West Germany - Austria 1982 and why the crowd booed both teams off the pitch at the final whistle.

Best wishes,
Steve

The final round of games for Group H are now complete.

Colombia 1 Senegal 0. Colombia finish top of the group. Senegal had the better of the first half but were unable to take any of their chances. Colombia had to push in the second half as they were going home at that point. The goal was good header and overall probably deserve to through to the last sixteen. Senegal go home thanks to their poorer disciplinary record. Ultimately though, when you on top and creating chances, you have to take them.

Poland 1 Japan 0. Not the game I watched. Poland, already eliminated, defeated a disappointing Japan.

Colombia top through and Japan go through in second place because they have fewer yellow cards than Senegal. The final 15 minutes of this game were disgraceful.

Last sixteen pairings will be known later today.

Best wishes,
Steve

Indeed.

They are famous for their fair and honest way to play football.

Yeah me too. They know how to play the beautiful game properly. As said before, the only problem is they are so ruthlessly clinical they tend to break the hearts of teams that should have won - Hungary 1954 and Poland and Holland 1974 are stand-outs - but then so is England 1970 and 1982 and in the Euros 1996. There are countless other times too.

And even when the Germans produce a rubbish team they are still able to get to the final of the World Cup (2002).... Most countries can't get to the final with their bestest ever team. Germany did it with one of their worst. Amazing.

Disgraceful and stupid. At that point in the game Japan were going through having the better disciplinary record. So both teams just walked around the pitch passing the ball making no challenges, making no effort to attack simply playing out the final 15 minutes where absolutely nothing happened. Stupid because Senegal were throwing everything at Colombia and could at any point have equalized putting Japan out.

Essentially Poland and Japan agreed to call an end to the game on 75 minutes as a 1-0 win to Poland.

Best wishes,
Steve

Speaking of [&:], what is Southgate doing? That many changes is just plain dumb. Maguire has been shaky, so unless he is considering dropping him for the next game, why not give him more time to get a handle on international football? Why drop Sterling? He too needs a non-pressured game to get into the grove he allegedly is capable of.....

Really.Not.Happy.With.That [:(]
