Air Intercept - Pre-Planned Targets?

Post by StrongHarm »

I'm facing a challenge with Air Intercept strike missions. I set some F-22s and F-35s to intercept an A-50 HVT. They get within range of the A-50, then expend all of their missiles on the enemy escorts. I tried setting "Pre-Planned Targets Only" and set the WRA for AIM-120s to "Do not use weapon in self defense", but no joy. Can anyone shed light?

are you able to actually define the A-50 as the target of the mission? if so maybe you have Doctrine >> General >> Engage Opportunity targets set to Yes? though I think default is no.

Maybe under WRA for the missile you could have it set to not use for anything other that that type of AC? I see AEW as a type the rest could be set to Do Not Use?

Engage Opportunity Targets is set to 'Engage Mission Specific Targets Only'.

I like the idea of setting no automatic fire to everything but AEW, but that's a time consuming work around. Could this be a bug that's causing 'Pre-planned Targets Only' not to work?

Has anyone else experienced this?
Am I simply doing it wrong?

The only work around I've come up with is to have the units hold fire, then use manual attack.

I have noticed this too - often the interceptors ignore the pre-planned targets and instead go after a remote and unimportant contact.I will try to find an example to post.

In the attached example, Flight Gypsy64 is tasked (via the mission editor) with intercepting some of the bandits approaching from the NE and has been ordered to engage pre-planned targets only. It has green targeting vectors to the designated targets and yellow to some of the others. (I am unsure what a yellow vector implies.) However, two of the interceptors are heading towards Bogey35, an unidentified target which is far away and probably out of range.

Doctrine is also set to engage mission specific targets only. I'm confused - can anyone enlighten me, please?[:(]
