Too many devices for a Unit, what to make independent?

Post by Dili »

I have an armored division with too many devices types, what type i should take out and make independent that would hurt less its fighting capabilities, or that fighting independently is hurt less by how the game land combat works.

Artillery?
Recon Bn?
Assault engineers?

I suppose tanks and infantry are out of question.

of course quantities matter also.

I would separate Aufklärungungs-Abteilung, but that doesn't make it any more mobile, as there are only two types of movement in-game. They were mostly operating independent.

As it is currently modelled, all Light Mortars are included into Squad Devices strength.
Do you need separate Motorcycle Squads (spelling error in device)? Do you need separate HMG squads? You can add their strength into Infantry.

You could probably check, what was Kampfgruppe organisation, for operation, but my guess is, that it will not reduce number of slots taken, unless whole armor was dumped into one of them.

I have put Recon and AA separated, really no alternative another option was artillery.
I am thinking of ditching the small mortars like you said. Motorcycle squads has less men than the typical Mot.Grenadier so warrants the difference. In game everyone have the HMG separated and they are not part of squad.
I'll have to make all armored type for mobility proposes. With 12 symbol icon in Aufkl.

Initially yes, but evolution of US Squads in-game include additional MGs from pool, and they are added to Squads strength, not TOE. And in German army, the only difference between LMG, and HMG is tripod. Those are essentially the same MG-34/42s.
You can average out number of men in Motorcycle, and Grenadier Squads, to make a hybrid, if ratio is roughly constant in all units, or you can assume, that HMG, and Motorcycle Squad is considered one unit. You will lose some AV, but that would save you slots in LCU.

But Heer is the only army with a GPMG, i can't have them in normal squads because it would make the units smaller and like you said with less AV compared to US, British.
I am too far for a change motorcycles, it would imply to change Italians, Greeks, French, Bulgarians, Yugoslavs, Hungarians, i started with countries that were more difficult to do research about, maybe that was a mistake, i let Germany, British, US to do in the end.
