Any way to skip the "launcher"?

Post by Shadrach »

All Matrix games appear have this abomination of UI design (left over from the CD autoplay days), and I usually will bypass it by launching the application exe directly.

However when launching FPRS.exe directly I get the error "Steam initialization failed", and the game exits. Even if Steam is in fact running.

Is there any way to launch the game directly bypassing the launcher, some command line option or others?

I have a shortcut to the exe on my desktop that works for me. My Steam is loaded on boot. I will test it out again this evening when I get home from work and see what may be going on.

When launching the exe directly, and choosing go to Main Menu, the following error occurs, and the game exits. This is with Steam running in the background.

I also have a hacked steam_api.dll which I use in situations like this and when replacing the dll with it, then I can launch the exe directly, because it completely bypasses the Steam API. But of course I would like to avoid using this hack to launch the game.

I will have a bit of time this evening to look at this. Plus I have alerted the rest of the Dev Team to your issues as well.

I tried a combination of things to directly launch the game and was unsuccessful. I will check with the team to see if there is anything else they know of to bypass when using Steam.

Thanks for testing. It's not a big deal for sure, just a bit annoying. I mean, Steam is already a "launcher" so why do I need to go through another application to launch the game.

And does Matrix think we need those shortcuts to the game manual and the website, like we cannot find it ourselves... basically it's just a sneaky way to show ads for other games [8|]
