Best Documentary for Pacific Theater?

Post by DonCzirr »

Looking for more of an emphasis on the military operations (wargaming perspective), with maps etc as opposed to the focus on individual

stories and social commentary etc ....

Any recommendations?

I can vouch for their handling of the battle of Midway. Amongst the best documentary series out there.

I didn't see any other Pacific-themed episodes in that series upon first perusal. Unfortunately, Battlefield does really focus on the European theatre of WWII. But it does a bang-up job on what it does tackle.

Yes I was referring it mostly for Midway but I thought I saw a Guadalcanal episode too.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I started a battle for Luzon in 41 as the Japanese and that does not seem too well covered anywhere - with MacArthur's return to the Philippines getting a lot more focus.

To the winner go the spoils .... and apparently the better documentaries as well [;)]

I have Series 1 and 2 (the format changed for Series 3 and beyond iirc and I haven't seen them) and there is:

Series 1 - The Battle of Midway
Series 2 - The Battle of Leyte Gulf.
Now Maitland, now's your time!

Duke of Wellington to 1st Guards Brigade - Waterloo 18 June 1815

Battlefield is very good but very slow paced and a bit repetitive.

From memory, Hell in the Pacific was good...

Edit: Battlefield does go into the detail you're after though. The above series is more of an overview with excellent footage and analysis.
