The F4F-3 Wildcat upgrades (?) to the F2A-3 Buffalo, is it worth it? VMf-211 upgrades to the F4F-4

The F2A-3 Buffalo is a dog of a plane but has a little more range than the F4F-3. You could use it for recon or long range escort.

How well is the AI at repairing damage to ships. The AI IJN ships that had the running 2 day battle suffered serious damage, but sent the ships to Turk and not to a port with a shipyard.

I not sure if CA Maya with 67/16/9 damage would be repaired in Turk before the allies capture it.

The AI disbands the ships but even if there is a SY it does not have to put them in it to get SY benefits. But I don't know if it does SY type repair at a base with no SY.
If you can bomb Truk port with HB or carrier aircraft you might net a nice harvest. Your call to make on the risks involved.

My plan work at the cost of only two DD. I sent three Dutch DD to intercept and slow down the Balikpapan invasion force. The invasion force consisted of 1 CL, 1 AS, 3 SC, 8 xAK, 4xAKL. The results of the first surface combat was 2 Dutch DD, for the lost of 1 SC, 1 AS, 1 xAK.

DD Banackert (Day 69 Night 63)survived the first encounter with the IJN TF but was out of fuel, I sent it to Balikpapan for refuel, and to await the arrival of the invasion TF.

My goal was to disrupt the invasion, and depleting the ammo available for support to the landing. The first combat delayed the invasion by one day and gave the defending guns a chance to hit some of the ships.

Balikapan has fallen, which is to be expected, however it came with a higher cost than in my previous games.

Reported IJN ships lost are 1 AS, 1 CM, 1 LSD, 1 PB, 2 E, 1 SC, 3 xAK, 2 xAKL, I suspect more will sink as there are many damaged ships retiring from the various battles. CL Kinu is probably heavily damage and on fire after last engagement.

The Balikapan coastal guns where more accurate than the fire suppression of the IJN. This along with the weather was I feel a contributing factor in the success of the surface combat on the 12th. Not much ammo left in the AMPTF to defend themselves

Allies ship loses were 2 Dutch DD and 3 HDML.

I will now use all PAT and Transport a/c to evacuate the units elsewhere.
