Turn 33 Army group North

Another peaceful week for AGN with no Soviet attacks.

There continues to be talk of a Finnish offensive at OKH headquarters and it appears that field marshal Telemecus is very enthusiastic about the idea, so much so that he's sending 40th pz corps with 10th pz and LAH mot divisions North to take part. He also informs me that Mannerheim intends to attack across the Volchov river just South of Lake Ladoga with the idea of preventing Soviet reinforcements being sent North by cutting the rail link. AGN's 60th motorized division is to be temporarily attached to the Finnish Karelian army for this operation.

Plan for the three stage Finnish offensive codenamed operation Rudolf/Rednose/Reindeer. Scheduled for next week.
Stage 3 (Reindeer) is contingent on both the other operations succeeding and will require a following wind even if they do both succeed so I'd give it a low probability of being implemented

Turn 33 Army Group South

Another exciting and cold week of blizzard. Only dreams of summer can provide moments of warmth. Some decent defensive stands by the Romanians, as well as successful counterattacks by German forces that rout and push out some Soviet forces. Yes, yes, the Axis can counterattack during the blizzard.

Turn 34 5-February-1942 Team

The dastardly Soviets poisoned the Ragu sauce of our Southern commander while he was taking his go! As a result Crackaces covered the end of the south go this turn.

Turn 34 11-February-1942 Centre

With the Soviet side going quiet north of the Oka, apart from our usual yo-yo battle over two hexes we start to "electric slide" (Crackaces term!) our commands south. The boundary with North is now moving from Moscow to the Oka itself while centre shifts its boundary with south southwards.

The Soviets make a net territorial gain of only one hex in the centre - and our attacks in our turn are now starting to reach parity in numbers, with the effect of many many Soviet units being routed back.

The Soviet Blizzard offensive is grinding to a halt. In a slight rewriting of history we now start the

AXIS BLIZZARD OFFENSIVE!!!!

Turn 34 Army group North

Operation Rednose is cancelled after reconnaissance patrols report heavy Soviet reinforcements being deployed in the target area.

However operation Rudolf goes ahead and after a tough, close fought battle the Soviet defenses are broken by the Finnish VI corps ably commanded by Major General Talvela. 40th panzer corps exploits the gap but is unable to cut off the Soviet divisions North of lake Janisjarvi.

Turn 34 Army Group South

Plenty of Soviet action this turn, but little to show for it. The blizzard continues and it feels like the Soviets are getting desperate in their attacks but the Germans are defending nicely. Plenty of artillery and rockets pound the Soviets in the bitter cold.

The European zone turns to snow this turn and the Axis begin to plan their next attack in the Crimea. Ak'Manay will be first, Sevastopol will have to wait until clear weather.

Just noticed we had a tank brigade under an airborne corp in one of those battles [:D]

Also a great picture to show the difference in how good regiments are on defence compared to divisions!

Clear weather you say? It will take considerably longer than that.

Does anyone have a countdown clock with the seconds hand working we can borrow for the clear weather?

News flash - the Sevastopol garrison commander has cancelled all running and skating lessons. All must attend long distance swimming lessons instead.
