Unit air attacks

Post by Majick »

Hi All,

For my last few games I haven't spotted a single air attack on enemy units.

I'm getting interdiction, airfield attacks etc. But it seems whatever settings I use I can't get my airforce to attack units directly.

Does anyone know what the directive needs to contain to make this happen? (already have units as high priority by the way)

Cheers

Yes I'm able to get enemy units bombed with ground attack missions and target = units
I used both FB and LB to bomb enemy units.
anyway I find interdiction missions to obtain much better results if you follow them with land attack

If it doesn't find "valid" unit target it is switching to interdiction. It usually happens when there is no enemy units with proper detection and/or high enough CV value.

I've played Husky several times, Torch, and the campaign starting at D-Day and not spotted one unit attack, I'm just wondering if there might be some setting I have wrong for it..

There could be many reasons you don't see them. Mostly low detection and low CV.

Btw, interdiction tries to make direct unit bombing if unit is in the hex, but it also adds "permanent" interdiction value to the hex.

That's surely the cause, if you post a picture with your settings maybe we can help you.
I usually target a single enemy unit with level bombers in front line so that detection is good. I use a 0(zero) area to not disperse the action. And as target I set only "units", so, recapping, a dedicated air directive.

OK here goes. I've saved every relevant screen from the directives through to the actual combat results, and I'll see if I can post them all. It might go over several posts.

I'll spare you the results unless you want me to post them in detail. However, there were 14 interdictions, 2 of which were air combat, and one Obseervation. No ground attack.

Ok you're in full auto air directive creation by AI.
If you want specific results you should create your own directives.

Anyway you can also check and modify air directives created by AI.

After directives creation you can go to this screen (air planning) and, clicking on the rectangle title, it opens the detail of directive.

I.e you can click and open "GND ATTACK tactical air force" directive and change the setting selecting ONLY units and ypu can see and change squadrons dedicated.

Thanks for getting back to me MrBlizzard.

What is it you are seeing that is telling you I am in full auto air directive creation by AI? And how can I turn that off?

When you talk about changing the directive setting selecting only units I'm not sure how you actually make the change. As you can see from my screen shots I have manually added squadrons to the two air directives, both of which I created as new directives. Hitting the rectangular title for the directive on the Air Planning screen I can not see a way to change specific target types - how are you doing that?

I thought the idea of the air system in WITW was that you could let the AI manage it overall but add your own air directives for specific targets you wanted hit. Thats what I've been doing so I'm a bit confused you are saying that I'm in full auto and have not created my own directives :)

Ops sorry, with my mobile I couldn't see the right part of your pics.
ok, you've created your directives, so now you've just to edit them
click on <TGT PRI> and check only "UNIT" like in this picture; uncheck all other targets so your planes can concentrate on land units
then click DONE and confirm the directive.

your planes will attack units
