Online play - the only way to go...

Panther Games' Highway to the Reich revolutionizes wargaming with its pausable, continuous time game play and advanced artificial intelligence. Command like a real General, under real time pressures to achieve real objectives on a real map all within the fog of war. Issue orders to your powerful AI controlled subordinates or take total control of every unit. Fight the world's most advanced AI opponent or match wits against your friends online or over a LAN. Highway to the Reich covers all four battles from Operation Market Garden, including Arnhem, Nijmegen, Eindhoven and the 30th Corps breakout from Neerpelt.

Online play - the only way to go...

Post by Yakstock »

In preparation for the upcoming release I wanted to start a post on how best to help facilitate head to head play. I will start off with a couple of ideas. First, one we used before, is the chat program approach. We register (perhaps at the drop zone) with our ICQ/AIM/Yahoo numbers so we all can try and find players at a moment’s notice. This is fairly easy, but it does not address the concern of people who need to plan free time ahead of schedule (like us older married folks who want to stay married). The second idea I wanted to try and float out there is a posting board that would allow players to block off times in the future and schedule head to head play. It would take someone who knows what they are doing on the web to set it up, but I have attached a crude version of what it might look like just using a spreadsheet.

Head to head is by far the best way to play this game and I would like to do all we can to facilitate more online games. Do you think this idea would work? Do you have others?

Hey Dave – if we come up with something at the drop zone or the official web site – can we get it in the literature that goes out with the game?

Better hurry Gary. I'm hoping to finish off the Reference manual this week. If it can't be setup by then we can still include it on the Read Me file on disk.

Geez... I didn't realize you guys were that far along. Not that I mind. ;)

Steve Barnes, who is writing the Strategy Guide, sent me an early draft two weeks ago. It's not yet complete but it's great stuff. I really like Steve's historical analysis and writing style. Very engaging.

This should be addressed by traditional Matrix Forums organisation for a shipping game : there will be a opponent finder forum so we can register there. The idea to dedicate a thread for it (one message per player) was (and still is) a good idea.

Otherwise, I can maintain a list on the web site, no problem. Just allow time between updates.

A kind of calendar were we can book meetings between opponents ?
Nice idea.
To have it freely and easily available on the web (without manual intervention) requires much more competencies and free time that I have at the moment (if you were thinking about my humble person ;) ).

Cheers,

JeF.
