Finland and the Deputies

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Finland and the Deputies

Post by DeriKuk »

This thread started elsewhere, but it deserves the attention of the upper gurus of the long scenario:

The problem starts with the Allied stance towards FINLAND, and - to a lesser extent - the French banning of the Communist deputies.

Supporting the Fins and banning the deputies both go a long way towards alienating the Soviet Union. With this alienation the SU will take a long time in preparing for war, and may actually be fatally unready when Barbarossa rolls around. I'd say that the result of these events is a major flaw in the scenarios and scripts. No sane, competitive Allied player will opt to exercise them; so... a "perfect solution".

Perhaps reneging on "Finnish Intervention" could accelerate Italian support for the Axis cause; while Banning the Deputies could knock a few points off Spanish leanings towards the Axis? Both of these are historically plausible, and they do not break the scenario as is currently the case.

Hear, hear.
Your suggestions are interesting and I'd like to see them (or any other) implemented in the future.

I don't have a solution to the issue you raise, but this is one the (many) reasons why I don't do MP and let the AI run the Soviet Union when I'm playing the Allies solo.

Hi Derikuk

I've just read the other thread about someone using diplomacy to bring the USSR into the war in May 1940. This makes me wonder if the Allies could support the Finns, ban the Communist Party, and still under some circumstances afford to invest a chit or two in the USSR in order to make up for any negative impact these events have on Soviet mobilization?

Reason being that I suspect the Allied player in that game must have felt that they could afford to invest quite a few more chits in diplomacy towards the USSR.

Bill, the Axis player can more easily afford major diplo chits than the UK can.
And the UK investing 5 major chit (just to counter axis chits) severely hurts the UK in prepping for 'Standing Alone' portion of the war.

In regards to the USSR joining so early, it's mostly a situational awareness issue fo an unaware axis player.

I see your points but, with all the political options and wars being fought at the same time
it becomes very complicated.
I think the best resolution is this.
UK .. has max 3 major 2 minor diplo chits for example, now if UK buys a chit for USSR it should only have a 4%
especially given the fact that USSR is being beligerent to finns baltics besserabia
now USSR launches winter war .. ok the nations that border finland, sweden, norway, baltics should all swing towards
the Axis by a % amount
If UK buys a USA chit its 5% .. If UK buys a spanish chit its 4% If france buys a spanish cit its 3%
why because spain is a pro axis influenced nation as well as the allies lost the SCW .. spanish civil war
Now, when USSR invades poland, hungary and the baltics both swing a % towards axis
when besserabia is annexed hungary and rumania both swing towards axis by %
Yugo was actually pro axis influenced, as well as in reality it was a pro axis coup followed by a pro allied coup
Italian and german chits would both effect yugo by 5%, and if yugo sides with axis, both huns and rums swing a % axis
why because they border axis
Now this may sound complex but its easy to figure out, take each situation and have a solution
lots more thoughts on this ... !!!
