Tarawa landings

Post by Snake726 »

I've played this scenario maybe 10 times, and all but once I never got any units to the shore. Eventually, my tactic became to land everyone ahistorically on the pier, and branch out from there.

Units approaching the beaches any time after the initial bombardment are vaporized and vanish as they take fire from the coastal guns. Surely it is not meant to be that everyone in wave 1 on all beaches dies in the shallows on approach.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there an error here in that there should be a proficiency loss or some more granular loss of men, but instead the entire platoons are being destroyed? I can't make sense of it.

I just did a test, allowing the AI to control the Marine landing - and they were all annihilated as well. Not one unit made it to the beach.

Strangely, the TOAW 3 version of the same scenario functions - the AI was able to get the Marines to the beach in the first game. It seems like there may be something in the TOAW 4 naval code that is making the artillery do more damage, perhaps?

If you don't mind, can you open that scenario in the Editor, go to Edit > Deployment, then go to Edit > Set Naval Attrition Divider [pictured], then check the current setting. If it is 10 as seen in the inset, please set it to 100 and then run your test again to see if the results are acceptable.

If this is too much to ask, I will do it and will post the scenario here for you to try.

What Steve assumes is that you already know that you have to save the scenario after you change it.

Thanks! I believe I can figure that out; I will give that a shot later today, after work, and let you know the results.
