Problems getting started with UV

Post by Herr Kruger »

Hey all. I'm new here. I got my copy of UV today, after playing around with 1.0 for a short while, I used TrueUpdate to install a few updates in succession. After True Update told me I had the lastest version, I tried to pay and the game would not start. At the Game Menu Screen, I pressed "Play" or "Start" and nothing happened.

I am on a PIII 450 Mhz running WIN 98SE w/ 192 MB RAM and Direct X 8.1. This seems like a really good game, though I am pretty new to naval comabt, I think I could really get into it.

Do you have 2 CD drives?

You installed it using the first CD drive?

Remove the CD and insert it into the second CD drive.

The game will run.

Its the weirdest bug in history.

But one of the greatest wargames - and I am not even a naval nut :)

It may actually have been 2.0, not sure. All I know is the game worked and then after the couple of updates it would not work. I purchased it retail in Canada, not sure how long they had it but it was their last copy.

I installed the game using my 2nd drive, a CDRW. Drive 1 is my DVD/conventional CD drive. So, does this only happen once or do I always have to use drive 1? That is a weird bug. I am not a navy guy either, but I think I can get into this one.

The problem is with the copy protection in 2.30 patch. Move the CD to your other drive and the game will function again.

The particular flavour of copy protection does not seem to work when in a drive configured as slave instead of master.

Thank you!

Hey,
Thanks for the solution, it worked! The drive doesn't even seem to read the CD, but it works, and it is a noisy drive anyway. I have not read the manual through even half but I've been playing around with the tutorial and the Coral Sea battle as well....

Flip your settings around on the drives to change which one is master and which is slave and you'll have the quiet drive as the main one.

It will be a couple of jumpers on the back of the drive itself.
