WS nuts and bolts doc

Post by AutoHost »

Prince Corrin (I think) made a great little document that showed the following in v1.4:

1. exact stats on each weapon

2. weapons' special effects (like BRG or CLG) and any percentages that goes with them

3. percentages effect on hiding/to hit/etc for different terrain types/cover (like trees) etc.

and probably some other stuff I've forgotten.

Is there a URL for a new, similar document for WS? Most of the above is not listed in the manual.

Your answers sir.

1- Exact stats are in the factory where you need them most.

2- page 15 of the manual tells the BRG and CLG effects. Exact percentages of what? Skill checks are made by jocks and that can vary. Otherwise the exact weapon stats are in the factory
as well as info. mouse hover over the weapon text and press f1.

3- Hiding is on page 24. click on a hex directly and it will give you its visibility value. It also explains why we can't tell you exactly.
Its do to many reasons. But you can look on your first info page and it will give you the exact figure. I suspect you can even see your enemies if you get a decent scan.

4- Well let us know when you remember we'll try to answer those.

5-Not that I know of.

A COMPLETE guide through the game mechanics of TOS: WS would easily take 100+ pages and is a major task.

Iceman did a compilation of

1. A TOS indepth guide as a word doc file and
2. Some excel sheet which I never reviewed as I don't have excel on my computer.

You asked for it, here its is. Though Iceman aka Thorgrim is second to none in his knowledge of TOS if will call this data unofficial as it is not approved by Vicious Byte and I would like to have it in a single PDF file.

Perhaps it should be treated like open source. Flashed out, improved, saved in different formats.

We at Vicious Byte would love to give players as much as detail as they ask for but don't have the time to do it on our own. Iceman did make a start compiling a guide. Its up to the comunity to ask for more detail. We will hand it to you but you have to put it in form. Its like asking the quake coders how big is the percantage to hit a certain location during a rocket jump. Its not in their manual for sure.

The text file was for your eyes only Larkin
Most of the info in those files has been checked by me over the years, but a few things may have changed in WS without me noticing or be able to check.

Excellent, thanks guys! There are all kinds of little things I've been wondering about in WS, like the precise effects of Bravery and other esoteric little tidbits of that nature.

I'm looking forward to seeing this!

Oops, well I'll delete it then without unzipping it to respect Iceman's wishes. Hopefully a new approved version will be posted soon.

And I apologize for my rude questions at the start of this thread. I know VB staff have worked long and hard on this game for a long time, and it really looks great!

Thank you for your kind, tactful answers.

I'd like to point out that it was ICEMAN who made that file. Not me. I wrote the FAQ(which firestorm converted to HTML, since I was bein lazy), and started work on a strategy guide which was never quite finished.
I see your lips moving, but all I hear is: Blah Blah Blah, I'm a friggin moron.

There was no problem with the file, it just was one of my notepad files I used during the beta test period. It was quite messy, as I was having little time to clean them up in the final stages. I don't think there's any "classified" info there - not in that one, at least :D
