Low Experience unit with 5 EXP ?

Post by oaltinyay »

Can it be possible to have a unit with EXP as low as 5 ?

I just noticed that one of my units have such an exp ... and these guys are driving tanks ? They are probably more of a threat to their own side.

Besides, how can such a unit exist in the game also ? A glitch ?

Nope, the unit comes in that way.

A suggestion, buy it out cheap while a lot of devices are disabled, give it a good leader for Inspiration to help training, set to Rest and no reinforcements, do NOT change the Future Objective target since once it hits 100 it will raise the experience, and use it for garrison duties. Once it trains up, then kill Japanese infantry and rear echelon units in the open . . .

From Wiki
Maybe the exp ratings of other units should be questioned.

The brigade was formed on 3 July 1942 at Sialkot with three regiments of the Royal Armoured Corps. These were infantry battalions of the British Army that were converted to an armoured role:

116th Regiment Royal Armoured Corps formed on 24 July 1942 from 9th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders
160th Regiment Royal Armoured Corps formed on 15 July 1942 from 9th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment in the United Kingdom
163rd Regiment Royal Armoured Corps formed on 30 July 1942 from 13th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters

It moved to Secunderabad in October under the command of the 43rd Indian Armoured Division and then to Poona. The brigade was intended for service in the Burma Campaign during the Second World War but in the event it never left India. On 1 April 1943, it was reconstituted as the 72nd Indian Infantry Brigade.

There are lots of units with Exp. starting at 5, including some Canadian ones IIRC. Now Canadians would be quite familiar with rifles and how to use them, and probably most would have mechanical skills from fixing things in their largely rural country. And from bar-room brawls they would have a good sense of tactics and hand-to-hand combat.
The point is, the game designers were probably trying to avoid having good units come on-line too early because of the balance considerations. One way to do that would be to bork the Exp. level of some units. JMO.

Well , I can raise the exp. level but my question was more like - is this realistic ? I dont think so. @Jeffrok says it is initially made of some decent nucleus units not from total green troops.

Yes, yes it is very realistic. Immediate necessity on a battle front will cause personal completely untrained, unqualified and totally unsuited for thier new roll to be placed there simply because there was no one else available. Doesn't matter what thier experiance was in thier old roll, in thier new roll they are green. Sometimes worse then raw green recruits because they bring along bad habits and inter service prejudices from thier old rolls.

The initial low experience represents the lack of officers in the unit. You see this a lot with various Indian units. The Exp will dramatically rise from single digits to 40s overnight to represent the influx of officers overnight.

Correct.

It was a deliberate decision of the devs that the early war Empire LCUs should reflect the historical general unpreparedness for combat which applied. Having a low starting experience level was just one of the adopted means for implementing this state within the game engine.

This unit also has vickers tankettes, so its not going to be great for a while until it can upgrade. Train it up, buy it out cheap, upgrade and fill out, and by the time it has 40exp it could be sent into pick up the rest in combat, or just wait for 50exp. There are more experienced options to buy out early if you want them, and many have a better set of devices in play already.

Probably a bug. 270 days have passed since the beginning of the war and the unit haven't trained a single EXP point? They sould train on their own up to their national EXP limit, whatever that is.

It is not a bug.  It doesn't increase experience until it has reached 100 prep points.  Currently it is still only at 75 for Madras.  How many target changes has it had?

It is a reinforcement and in come in at Madras.

Put infantry in a tank and they would not know what to do. Too many knobs, switches, moving parts . . .

Does not even need to be that, there were units that were place holders for training and did no combat. It seems this unit never saw combat so i guess their cadre were moved where it needed.

It always a very difficult design decision for a scenario creator what/how to do with units that never entered combat.

One of the tank battalions in Hawaii never left the islands. Probably for training and men being sent to other units as trained replacements. In Europe, the recovered wounded would probably not get sent back to their previous units. In many cases, trained infantry were put into a tank unit and those men were a liability.

The design decision works fine and is realistic. The Indian army was poorly prepared, equipped, trained, led and many units were politically unreliable at the beginning of the war due to the very strong Indian independence movement. Virtually every Indian unit starts the war with low experience and morale. One of the reasons why a move to India looks so inviting to the Japanese player. One of the most stunning surprises was that the Indian populace was able to lay down it's deep resentment of British colonial rule and unite to fight the Japanese in such a uniform fashion. Stay the course. My Indian troops due to being in the front lines from day one are among the best that I have in 1944-some of them having as high experience as my marine units. The Indian tank brigades eventually become monster units once they get better rides and the infantry divisions get very large and powerful. You only need to manage them well and not suffer large losses as the device replacement pool is low. One point is that in 1944 I have half a dozen Indian brigades that are cadres and two divisions to rebuild as well. Might not ever get the chance to rebuild most of them. But the units that I have are hard as nails.

This cannot be said enough for most Allied LCUs at beginning of war. I did the change and more change in India and China in my early playing days until I learned this important fact. [:-]

In the 11.24 update there was a small change to experience gain that will start to be effective for this unit

90. Army experience being gained when not 100% prepared as per manual; changed to allow chance to gain experience if >75% prepare and < 50% national exp level

It's also justified in that the cream of the British officer corps was off in Europe at the time, leaving India and the Far East to whoever was left out of the African front.

So how did the tank unit fare in the battle of Akyab then? Any EXP gain?
