Japan First Turn to-do list

Post by Anachro »

I remember there being an excellent thread discussing the setup for Japan in the first few turns, including a dropbox or google doc document. It would go through the first few turns, as well as a basic primer on production, R&D, etc...can't seem to find it despite searching.

All I remember is it wasn't Numdydar's production primer.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Colonel,

That's not it, but excellent all the same. Will add to my collection...this other was a thread discussion that included a link to some dropbox file PDF...I had it favorited before, but alas it is lost. The thread also mentioned Mike Solie (or however his name is spelled), but was not started by him.

You still haven't replied about next week. I will be in on Wednesday in DC. I will also get my turn to you soon. [:)]

I came in this thread to recommend Kull's spreadsheet...

Only thing I would add is to save the 1st turn once you are done and make a backup of it. It'll save you from having to re-do it each time you want to start a new game.

Finally found it

All credit to n01487477

It's probably outdated and I will transition to Kull's spreadsheet, but its well-written and in a simple way that is easy to understand.

And really translate these are first TURNS lists. don't ever think you have to do everything on turn 1. There are going to over 1000 turns to get everything done. A turn or two hardly matters.

And MOST important pay attention to factory changes. They are EXPENSIVE and this is the place most players make the most errors. When you have to change, it costs 1000's of supply. think it through before you click ...

Right you are, Pax. I used to try and do everything in the first turn, but it's just not manageable. This is especially true for the industry.and engines.

I've got what may be a silly question, but I haven't played as Japan much and I am using this spreadsheet for the first time.

I see a few entries where it says to, say, expand a size 97 shipyard to 100. But when I click on expand, the only option is to double it to 194.

Similarly, I see examples where it says, say, expand production of X aircraft to 30. But if it's already at, say, 8, then the only option I see is to expand it to 16 and then 32.

Am I missing something? Is there a different screen where you can select exactly which level to expand the shipyard/aircraft/engine production?

There are two buttons you can press to expand. One does it it "1" increments, the other expands it at double the current planned capacity. Make sure you are pressing the right one.

By "right" one, I mean the one just to the left of the one you press to double.

See the below:

As you can see, there are actually three expansion buttons.

Go to your industry screen. To bring up the expansion buttons, click on fields in the "Type" column.

Definitely use the industry screen for any adjustments, and save as you go. Thanks to all who told me this, it wasn't me. I'm still working into industry

One other thing the Japanese player must do is hack the Allied player's computer, and place Halsey in Supreme Command. This will guarantee an early decisive battle. [:D]
