Two Italian Battleships are seen heading into the Atlantic via Gibraltar.

The Persian Garrison in Bandar Mahshahr is destroyed and the port taken, but an Italian Bomber takes an AA hit in the process.
Rommel makes more headway through central Persia.

The Russian advance north from the Crimea is cut itself by a German and a Romanian Corps.* The Russian Corps takes 2 damage, while the Romanian Corps takes 1.
The Russian Corps that opened the rail line to save the Armies in Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporizhia is attacked multiple times, retreating first westward then eastward and is then cut off.
It takes 6 damage, while the previously cut off Panzers (str 7, lvl 2) take 1 damage in the fighting.
In the Kiev pocket 2 Axis Bombers take hits from AA fire, and a German Corps takes 1 damage. A Russian Corps and Russian Army each take 2 damage.
The Corps defending Orsha takes 7 damage, while the Germans take 1 damage each to a Panzer and a Panzer Grenadier.
South of Pskov the Soviet AA is destroyed after absorbing a number of attacks. It even manages to do 1 damage to German Army.
The Russian Army that the AA was sacrificed in rear guard for takes 2 damage, while a Panzer takes 1.

A Russian Garrison cuts off a Finnish Garrison in Kestenga.
The Orsha to Vitebsk line is abandoned.
A cut off str 4 Corps (lvl 1) makes a desperate attack against a str 3 Romanian Army (lvl 2), but neither side is damaged.
Northeast of Kiev a cut off Russian Army (str 8, lvl 1) attacks a Panzer on the road line to safety. The Panzer (str 6, lvl 2, supply 1) takes 1 damage and holds its ground.
A fully supplied Russian Corps (str 10, lvl 1) in Konotop attacks the Italian paratroopers (str 8, lvl 1, supply 1, Morale 14, Readiness 27) but can't make a dent.
The Army in Kiev attacks the Slovakian Corps and does 1 damage to it.
Northwest of Konotop a Russian Corp (str 8, lvl 1, supply 4) attacks a German Corps (str 8, lvl 1, supply 0) who's zoc is cutting the road from Konotop to Bryansk. The German Corps takes 1 damage.
Just north of the Crimea a cut off Russian Corp (str 8, lvl 1, supply 0) attacks a German Corps (str 10, lvl 2, supply 0) and exchanges 1 damage with them.
South of Joensuu, a Russian Corps (str 10, lvl 1, supply 4) attacks a Finnish Corps (str 7, lvl 2, supply 4) and exchanges 1 damage. The Finnish Corps earns a pip of experience.

Turkey moves towards neutrality at Stalin's bidding (Turkey +13% Allied).

Axis units raid the Murmansk Convoy for 42 MPP worth of damage. This line is going to be very hard to protect without the British Isles.

Snow and mud is in the forecast for Russia and Europe.

The cut off Corps in the Crimea is killed. 1 damage is done to a Romanian Corps, and a Tac Bomber takes an AA hit.
The cut off Corps that saved the two Armies previously is itself killed north and a bit east of Dnepropetrovsk.
In the Kiev pocket a Russian Army and Corps are killed. The Army manages to do a point of damage to a Panzer Grenadier and to hit a Medium Bomber with AA fire.
A German Tac bomber takes an AA hit in killing the above mentioned Corps.
The Soviet AA unit north of Kiev takes 4 damage in various attacks, and does 1 damage back to a Corps.
The Russian Army and Corps east of Pskov and slowly retreating towards Luga are killed.
The Soviet Armored Train is attacked 4 times, taking 3 damage, while only a single Finnish Corps takes 1 damage back.
A Finnish Garrison takes 1 damage running into a Russian Corps between Kuolojarvi and Kandalaksha.
The cut off Russian Corps in Kherson and Chernigov take 1 damage, while the nearly cut off Corps in Pskov takes 2 damage.

A German destroyer forces S-4 to dive.
An Italian destroyer takes 1 damage from S-4.
Graf Zeppelin does 2 damage to S-4.

Rommel's advance in Persia cuts the Lend Lease line.

In all the German war machine, even in bad weather, manages to kill 4 Corps and 2 Armies. Half of which were cut off.

The German Corps retreats westward and gets itself cut off. The Mech moves further south along the road to seal it off.
The Trapped Kiev Army does 1 damage to a Bulgarian Corps (str 7, lvl 0).

Axis raiders do 44 MPP worth of damage to the Murmansk convoy line.

Yup, in a turn or 2.

However, in the long run I don't think I'll recover from blowing the defense of England and Egypt so badly.

Even if I take the UK back they will never be able to catch up in Tech or national morale; and in the meantime Axis economy is nearly equal to the Allies.

Its doubtful but you seem to be redeeming yourself in USSR.

Part of that is simply the slow roll IG took in Russia. That was in part due to 1) The slow Tech up of Germany that was the result of the heavy diplo war; and 2) The lack of early Panzers and land units overall.

However, the number of German land units no longer appears to be an issue.

It was fair to loose the British Isles.* But I could/should have made it take longer and be more expensive to do so. That would've put Russia in even better shape.
A big issue for Russia is lack of MPP support. I only got 3-4 turns of the Persia Lend Lease line; and it will take me some time to clean up/guard the Murmansk line to the point where I won't loose a third of
it to raiders.

*Side Note: The trick of setting up naval units(subs) in specific hexes so that Amphibs can be built in France and land in England (both via Calais and Cherbourg), or vice versa, in a single turn
will be modified in the next patch. Specifically Amphibs will have 0 movement points unless you are at Amphib Tech 1 or higher.

Allied Turn April 27, 1942

Previous Axis Turn:
Mud in Finland. Clear in Europe/Ukraine. Rain & mud in Russia.

A Garrison guarding Tehran's northwest flank takes x damage and is forced to retreat.
The Persian Corps (str 8, lvl 2) guarding Tehran itself then comes under attack and manages to hold the city. The defenders take x damage while doing 2 damage back to a Panzer Grenadier.

S-4's Reign of... Annoyance is nearly ended. The sub takes 4 damage from Graf Zeppelin and another from an Italian Destroyer leaving her at a 2 strength.

The Soviet Armored Train takes a point of damage after various attacks, but earns a pip of experience.

A German Army (str 10, lvl 2, 1 exp) is rebuffed taking 1 damage attacking the Russian Corps dug in at Talinn.
Pskov falls and the defending Corps is killed while only managing 1 damage to a German Corps.
A Corps south of Narva takes 3 damage while the attacking German Corps takes 1.

In the Kiev Pocket the Russian AA gun takes 4 damage while doing 1 back to a Corps (I think it was German, but might've been a minor ally).
In the rest of the Ukraine, German bombers go wild.
The Russian Mech takes 8 damage and is forced to retreat (thus rescuing the 4 strength German Corps). German Medium & Tac Bombers both take AA hits from the Russian Mech.
The Corps defending Konotop is destroyed.
The Army defending Kharkov takes 4 damage (from bombers) but rebuffs a Panzer (str 6, lvl 2), with the German tanks taking 2 damage and then falling back.
A German Corps probes the Russian Army at Stalino. The German Corps takes 1(2?) damage then pulls back west.
The Romanians attack the cut off Kherson. The defending Corps takes 1 damage, but doesn't do anything back.

2 Russian Corps are killed, 1 in supply, this turn.

Allied Turn May 19, 1942

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in Finland. Clear in Europe/Ukraine. Clear in Russia.

A German Panzer and Panzer Grenadier unit take out the defenses in Tehran. The Panzer suffers 1 damage doing so. The other Panzer in Rommel's command destroys a Persian Garrison north of Tehran.

The Finnish Army (str 8, lvl 2, 1 exp) attacks a Russian Army (str 10, lvl 2) and does 3 damage to it while taking 1 back.

A German Fighter, near (on?) the coast of the Gulf of Finland scouts the road between Leningrad and Vyborg in the Karelian isthmus. It flies over xxx HQ and gets several planes shot down.
It's obvious they were scouting for a safe landing zone for the paratroopers who don't launch this turn but instead move a hex to the north along to the coast bringing and extending their range 1 hex.
The Russian Corps south of Narva takes 1 damage.
The Corps in Luga takes 5 damage.
The Corps defending in the woods to the northwest of Luga takes 2 damage.
The Waffen Special Forces and a Corps show up to assist the Army outside of Talinn, but no attacks are launched this turn.

3 Russian Fighters in the Smolensk area engage 3 different German Bombing runs.
Russian Fighters suffer a total of 5 losses, while Germans take hits on 2 of their own Fighter units as well as to 2 TAC bombers (1 of which was unescorted).
These runs are against the Russian Army south of Smolensk which is eventually destroyed, doing 1 damage to a German Army and 2 to a Panzer Grenadier.

The cut off Soviet Corps wandering the Pripyat marshes and woods is finally destroyed, with most of the heavy work done by a German Tactical bomber which does suffer damage from AA fire.
The cut off Russian Corps in Chernigov is attacked and takes 1 damage while doing 1 back to a German Corps.
The cut off AA gun north of Kiev is destroyed.
The Army in Kiev takes 5 damage and manages to inflict an AA hit on a set of Italian Medium Bombers.
The cuf off Russian Corps in Kherson is destroyed, but manages to do 1 damage to a Romanian Corps (str 7, lvl 2).

An Italian Mechanized unit is spotted near the besieged fortress of Przemysl. Is it heading east or is it going to assist with the siege?

The Russian Corps in Talinn is attacked by a German Army, Corps and Special Forces unit. The GE Corps and SF each take 1 damage while the defenders take 2 damage.
The Corps south of Narva takes 3 damage and is now being attacked from the south side as well.
The defending Corps in Luga is destroyed without doing any damage to the Germans. However between the mud and the plethora of attacks it takes the Germans fail to take the town.
A massive air battle is waged behind the Smolensk line as multiple waves of German bombers target Timoshenko's HQ.
3 Russian Fighters take a combined total of 8 damage, and the HQ takes 7 damage.
German losses: Scouting Fighter 2 AA hits (1 from AA unit & 1 from HQ) and 3 FTRs take hits from intercepting Russians (1 GE FTR used to draw off intercepting Russians).
1 Medium bomber takes 2 hits from AA (1 from AA & 1 from HQ), 1 TAC bmbr takes a hit from intercepting Russian FTRs.
1 other bomber gets through without taking any damage, and worse still manages to contribute to damage on a RU FTR.
The cut off Corps in Chernigov is destroyed but manages to hit a Tac bomber with AA.
The cut off Army in Kiev is destroyed.
The Army in Stalino is destroyed by combined air and ground power. A Panzer takes 1 damage in the fighting.
A Russian Heavy Armor in the Voroshilovgrad mines is attacked by 2 Tac bmbrs. They take 1 damage and hit one of the bombers with AA fire.
A Romanian Army takes 1 damage attacking an elite Garrison in xxx. The Garrison takes 2 damage.
An Italian Fighter takes an AA hit from an AA unit while scouting the Caspian sea road just north of the Persian border.
Przemysl is attacked by the Italian Mech (lvl 1), an Italian Corps and a German Corps. The defending Corps takes 2 damage.

West and slightly north of the northwest tip of Spain the RM Leonardo da Vinci comes across part of the Royal Navy. The sub is not surprised so is able to fire on HMS Warspite even with a Destroyer,
HMS Amazon, right next to her. The Battleship takes 4 damage while the sub takes 3.

The Corps defending Belgorod, with both roads cut and encirclement forthcoming, retreats to the forest behind the river to the northeast of town.
The Corps in Talinn evacuates out.

HMS Illustrious, part of Warspite's battle group, launches a strike against Leonardo da Vinci and does 2 damage to the sub.
Da Vinci dives from a 2nd Carrier strike, from HMS Courageous.
HMS Amazon finds her and does another point to the Italian sub.
Both Carriers launch 2nd strikes and both do a point of damage to the Italian sub.
USS Brooklyn (str 10, exp 1, ASW 2) forces a dive out of the sub.

HMCS Saguenay (str 10, asw 1) finds U-81 (str 9, lvl 2) further up the Murmansk convoy line in the Rockall west of Scotland and lays an expert pattern of depth charges doing 3 damage to the sub.
HMS Javelin then forces U-81 to dive.

Spain moves towards the Allies +9%

It feels like we've reached the unstoppable German Air power takes whatever the hell they want. Even with apparent Fighter level parity.
Would be helpful to have level 2 AA. But to invest an extra chit (to speed up the process) would mean either 1 less Army or 1 less other Tech investment (like C&C).
Already feel hopefully behind in both Tech investment and in units (particularly expensive HQ and offensive equipment) departments.

I'd like to offer my resignation.

The Soviet lines are getting thinner as there is more and more territory to cover.
Worse there is nothing I can do to stop the Axis air power, or even make my opponent dedicate part of it elsewhere, and it will eventually overcome anything/everything in its path.
Even if Russia survives to 1943 (probably but not guaranteed), there is almost no counter attack capability and even if the Wallies are wildly successful they won't achieve much more than taking back the British Isles only to eventually loose it again, or succumb to the bomb London and paradrop for the win. Taking both London/British Isles and Cairo back is not very feasible.

The only positive thing the Allies have going for them will be the eventual winning of the Atlantic. Probably by the end of 1942, or sooner if the Axis commit their fleet. Germany has 1 CV, 1 BB, 1 CA, 3 DD and 4 subs (10 ships). Italy has 9 ships, and is still at Naval Weapons 0. The GE subs are all at level 2 and the US Destroyers are now all ASW 3 and the majority of the UK destroyers are now at level 2 and I have 2 US CVLs (though slow they and the DDs will put an end to the subs). I also have all the fleet Carriers as well.

The UK has a relatively large (given the circumstances) force of land and air units. Most of the air units are still badly mangled and while a few of them are being built back up, they also need Tech of which only Advance Air is sorta keeping up. Add to that the lack of other Tech, only 1 UK HQ available (though I could get an additional one at reduced cost build... it's still over 2 turns worth of MPP to do so), and the horrible (71) National Morale their not going to be a factor other than reclaiming empty space on the Isles. They might hold their own versus Italian units. Oh and moving units back to Europe is going to stymie their meager (109) income as well.

I will continue if my opponent wishes to... but I think I'm going to end the high level detail of this AAR. It's mostly going to be Germany grinding up the Russians as the US claws back a few peripheral crumbs.

Just watched the last turn and the butchering was pretty bad.

In short Russia lost 2 Armies (Smolensk and north of Smolensk) and had a giant hole blown through the center defense.
2 Other Corps (Belgorod and north of Luga) and a Garrison at the town in front of Sevastopol.
Worse, the Russian fighters took another giant beating trying to defend Smolensk.

Rommel didn't push into the Caucasus, I suspect he is either repairing & upgrading the Panzers or possibly getting ready to Amphib through the Caspian Sea.
*Another move that should not be allowed. Or the USSR should start with a MT (and be able to build them) there.

A UK destroyer was sunk, by Tirpitz and an IT BB (with a sub in the area).
But this was a bit of a trap. There is a task force nearby that will guarantee to sink 1 if not both of those BBs (most likely case is to sink Tirpitz and cripple the IT BB).
