convoy problems for CW

Post by jjdenver »

As usual CW convoys are a total mess in the game I'm in. They've only been able to produce at 18 PP's for the first year of the game because the game tries to route resources in crazy ways. Really this game needs to stop trying to route convoys for us and let us just set where we want the resources to flow. There needs to be a toggle that says "please try to be smart (stupid) and route my convoys" or "don't touch my damn convoy routing let me manually set it". Seriously. In a normal (non-MWIF) game I can run 22 resources for CW all game long but not in MWIF. This is the one thing about MWIF that makes me really grumpy.

Anyway, I've got a question for the board and need help please.

I declared 3 res lending from US to CW. But I forgot to make it oil or I should say the person who set the lending for me to hurry up end of turn didn't make it oil. So it's just declared as 3 resources.

So, I want to designate 3 OIL resources to be lent by US to CW this turn so that I can save them in Canada. Is there any simple way to overcome the game's innate tendency to ignore me changing the resources to oil by designating oil resources as (TS) resources and make it stick? Or is it hopeless and the game will always change oil resources I designate as (TS) back to non-oil resources? I've had this problem also with CW. For example when I try to lend a res to China the game designates a resource from UK to go to China - why not a resource from India or Burma which is much closer? When I try to set these as (TS) the game just changes back to a UK resource.

Do I give up and just not get the 3 US resources this turn or is there a way to change to using 3 oil resources as (TS) from the US?

Thanks

[EDIT: When I try to manually set the 3 non-oil res picked by resource AI to go to "None" and set 3 oil res to go to "None" MWIF ignores me. I also tried setting all US non-oil to idle then setting 3 oil to trade to CW but again game ignores me and uses 3 non-oil res as (TS) to CW. There seems no way to accomplish this?]

JJ,
The computerized WIF game is very structured as to when decisions are made so you will be unable to change the lending after the lending phase until the following lending phase. The board game is the same way but if you have played FtF WIF you know that player decisions get adjusted out of phase all the time.

You can't change normal resources which are lent into oil resources in MWIF (or in the board game). That's not RAW...

I haven't seen problems with allocation of resources which are send to another major power. However, what I've noticed is that things become somewhat strange the moment you are making a lot of "default" instructions. The game than tries first to get those default set resources into factories and that's usually a problem the moment the convoy chains are not optimal...

So I try to make as few default settings as possible in the game. That seems to work.

The only bug which I know of which is still around is that it is impossible to allocate a source factory for a build point which is to be send to another major power...

I agree with you regarding the AI and convoys. I think players should be able to set the convoy routes manually without AI if they wish to (like clicking on resource+sea areas+factory). I have had often problems with convoy routes when AI takes funny decissions for me, making me to lose a couple of BP.
