Map

Post by geofflambert »

Some friends of mine bought the IV version of the game and are disappointed with the map. For War in the Pacific - Admirals Edition a fellow who goes by the username "chemkid" created a series of beautiful maps that could be substituted for the stock map. Has anyone done this for this game and Europe in particular? If not, has anyone tried substituting the maps from Mark III? Since bases and terrain data are an overlay (I hope), I should think this would be possible.

As I understand it there's a function in the editor that will export and import the map for a scenario. Is this what you mean?

I'm not sure. One of my friends has been making maps and for a long time for all sorts of things using this TOAW system. I presume he's been using terrain artwork provided with the game, and is unhappy with the visual appearance provided with this edition. I bet that's it, as he has complained about river graphics with Mark III. I'm thinking I might actually be able to figure this out. Any help on that would be appreciated.

On a different issue, this forum seems to have way too many stickies (TOP:) and no subforums.

The one friend who's been making maps has also been making scenarios. I will try to provide them here to anyone interested. They are still play testing an Eastern front WWII game that should be fabulous once the kinks are worked out.

j/k. nice avatar. [;)]

If someone has an artistic inclination they can make all sorts of changes to the game tiles. In the mods sub forum there are a few available.

TOAW III Graphics converted for use with TOAW IV:

The map graphics for TOAW are all completely modifiable using simple programs like Paint.Net.

I have tried to export just the map from my TOAW III, and I always receive an error which says " wrong map size"

Start TOAW IV and open the scenario editor. Load the TOAW III scenario there. Save it. Reload it into TOAW IV just to be sure it overwrites the TOAW III version. Save the map from there. I would use the 'Save Map As...' function. Click 'New Scenario'. Load your .MAL file from where you saved it. The game might say something about Uberdude and deployment if you have Uber running. Ignore the message. Your map will load. Works for me every time. [;)]
