People need to know

Hi,

This is a reply to my post on Mil Net (Many used to run an excellent Mechcommander league "Steel Command)

"ToS has been around for years. If you look around the 'net long enough, you can find the old version for free (it was originally freeware). I haven't played the new version, but from the website, all it offers nothing new to the game other than network play and spifier graphics.

Do a search for the old version and give it a try. I thought it had a lot of potential myself, but didn't really enjoy the game itself that much. I guess I just never got over the learning curve or something. "

What a shame becouse I know they would love this game and could have turned out a fantastic league with great roleplay which they did for mechcommander.

Though Sci Fi isnt really my thing I had a soft spot for Mechcommander and the league really got me into it which was run by these peopl(They now only deal with CAV but Im sure they would have embraced this game). If a league like this was set up again by you fans then it would entice me to buy it and prob others like me.

Well I have tried to plug it to them again so who knows.

Hope you all have a great time playing this game:D :)

What a mistake. TOS: WS is much more than this. I feel a bit tired to repeat the differences but I will do.

1. New grafics, adding 3D terrain, high res and transperancy.
2. New sounds, from the brilliant soundtrack of Crownd to combat sounds.
3. Single player campaigns and missions.
4. Multiplayer maps.
5. The map editor.
6. Improved AI at a strength 5:1 compared to the old freeware.
7. Improved network code increasing speed of battles.
8. Improved interface to get things done.
9. Auto move for your team.
10. Im/Export of titans to share.
11. Toggle between fullscreen/windowed mode.
12. New weapons, ranks and greatly enhanced game system.
13. This is a bad number to gone, other will go on .....

Freeware was nice, great fun at its time. TOS:WS is NOW, its much more and beyond comparison.

Hi Wodin! Thanks for the plugs, the more the merrier is my motto. :)

In addition to confirming all the improvements that Larkin mentioned (many of which are not immediately noticeable unless you have considerable experience playing with the freeware), I feel compelled to note that investing in ToS:WS was more than just an upgrade from the freeware for me.

For me, dropping 30 bucks on WS was more of a statement of support for a game system and a genre that I love. I could pay $29.95 several times over and it still wouldn't pay for all the enjoyment I've gotten out of this game. Most games I buy cost me twice that, and offer a fraction of the fun for a fraction of the time.

So basically by purchasing WS, I'm saying, "I like this. I want more of it." I would urge anyone who enjoys the freeware to do the same! But that's just my take on it, and naturally opinions will vary, and I will respect all of them.

(but I still reserve my God-given right to refuse to play anyone who doesn't have WS :D)

Larkin I was trying to spread the word of TOS WS to a bunch of people I know should be interested.

I will post again on there forum with the list you have posted.

Apart from that its all I can do.

I dont contribute much to their forum as I came across it trying to track down old mechcommander players and I have no interest in CAV which is what there all about now.

I have to say that it has me hooked. For some reason I never got into the freeware version, but now it really has me hooked. We're trying to stir up some interest at the GoneGold.com forums as well.

It's really awesome to see people liking the game so much, and spreading it around.
We sometimes catch a window
A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

Yes, GG'ers seem to be enjoying the game! Very favorable atmosphere and reviews for WS over there so far. Most of the little gripes I saw were concerning the initial difficulty of getting a grasp on how the UI works.

Good to see that people are sticking with it and getting the hang of it so quickly. Sharp bunch of gamers over there (not that I would expect anything less from fellow BT'ers... hehe).

Man, where were all you GG guys when I was desperately searching for Cyberstorm fans?!

For me, I'd have been fairly happy to pay the current price for the original 1.4 game ... so I can look on WS like a free super-upgrade.

From the business point of view it was a mistake to do any freeware at all. But we had not planned to earn money so we made a game we loved and wanted to show it to the world. The game had severe grafical limitations but it was fun and found a big interest. When the idea/chance came to do a commercial game we knew we had to improve the game manifold and I think we delivered. I will not touch v1.4 anymore. WS is so much better, honestly.
