I'd attempt to change your mind if I could know where your mind is at. As for this game, I believe you'd enjoy doing a PBEM.

For sure Anachro :), but I have to confess I m not sure to do 1 turn / a day speed. I spend so much time in micro management. :)

HeavyShell, just make sure you tell your possible opponent up front about the turn around times. I have one game that averages 2 turns per week,
it is not a problem because that is what we agreed on.

Good advice Bill, I probably should start alone again for a while as a warm up and see as fast I can go :)

Ah yes, the issue of the monster game…..

I have spent years on this, and it has become part of my life. Indeed at some times of total chaos it has been a little island of calm in a sea of crazy.

I have two games running at the moment - one is halted due to my opponent's life issues, one is moving forward at a turn per week real life… so another 8 years before I see the Victory Screen (currently in Feb 1945).

I am pushing 66 so add 8 years on and that’s me 74.. if I get that far and am still able to recall what I am doing and see the screen properly. The grim reaper is always just round the corner, and the older you get the better his chance of THE die roll in his favour.

So the amazing quality of this game is the detail and I would say the need to savour every last little drop of it. I occasionally look at the ‘opponents required’ section and reflect on the philosophy behind multi turns per day that are an aspect of their view. That’s not for me. On the other hand a slow paced game of one or two turns per week will never get ‘finished’ in my lifetime.

So this section seems dominated by the rapid turns round gamers - but there are probably others who are out there who see the game as one to enjoy on a turn basis - indeed just on a hex by hex basis. I have spent a good hour recently just planning the best sequence of moves to alter a couple of interlinked hexes on my map.

You need to, like in a partnership, establish that you both have similar approaches - and if you have then a game can go well despite the bumps.

I speak from a perspective of one whose games in the past have terminated by my opponent questioning every single thing I did against their view of what was historical (and I am a pretty historical player), one where deployment to a war zone ended the game, a multiplayer which fell apart, and one where my opponent succumbed to the big C.

I drive and admire the views as I drive, I get overtaken by others who are obviously motivated by simply getting to their end destination - which perversely is always merely a point before another end destination appears on their busy schedule.

Philosophical Sunday morning - my point in a nutshell. Decide what you want out of this game and then spell it out. There may be someone out there who sees what you say and goes - well hey that sounds like just what I want.

Just realize that playing against computer is very different that playing against a human opponent.

I play against myself, which is light years more challenging than against the AI, and hopefully not that far, in quality, from a game against a good player - which is ALWAYS the best;

in any case the great campaign should be handled reaaly by more than one player;

I also play two days per orders turn;
