RE: Board game mod ( ready to use + New upload to simplify install)

Post by RobertWevodau »

Yes, I did. I used "Save As" in Win 10, and after the download there was an installer file. When I double-clicked the installer it put the unwanted apps on my drive. The download link did say Board-Game mod, but I saw nothing of the mod after I downloaded and executed the installer. Any reason it would not work for me? Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Robert

Don't know what to tell you Robert. I just downloaded it and there is, and never has been, an "installer". You have to take the folders and put them into the correct places. If you downloaded something with an installer you downloaded the wrong files.

Thanks Hairog. I believe you, and I don't believe there is any malicious intent. However, I did get an installer program when I clicked on the download button on the page after NEW LINK is clicked. What was downloaded is a file named Installer, which when clicked loaded multiple unwanted malware apps. I should have been more careful for sure, but I trusted the link. The worst of the unwanted apps installed are KNCTR and Idle Buddy. I'm working with Malwarebytes to get them eliminated. My computer is seriously screwed up. I did try to download again and got the right file, so maybe this "Installer" file thing has been fixed.

For future downloaders, if the file you see as the downloaded file is named "installer", delete it and try again until you get the correct Board Game mod files.

Thanks,
Robert

Did read the readme? If so what seems to be the problem? I can try and help but I'm not an expert by any means.

I did read the README but Welk admitted that it's mostly trial and error. My issue is that I don't know which files get installed into which folders.

Lets start here

The files in the Zipped/downloaded "bitmaps" folder that say "major 1-7, neutral, allied minor, axis minor" go into their respective folders in the "bitmap" folder of the particular Campaign you are modifying. They will replace the files in them so backup the old ones first.

What these do (anyone correct me if I'm wrong) is to change colors/tints of the hexes that these countries occupy.

The Campaign folders are located Your Hard Drive > Documents > My Games > Strategic War In Europe...> Campaigns.

The rest of the files in the Zipped/downloaded Bitmaps Folder go loose into the Campaign Folder of choice. They too will replace the files in the original, so backup if you care. These files change the basic look of the unoccupied map. These are the crux of the mod.

That is 99% of the files... well 90%.

The files in the Zipped/downloaded Interface Files go into the Campaign > Interface Folder and once again will replace the old ones yada yada.

I have majors 1-7, and neutral but there is no allied minor nor axis minor you mentioned. I hope I have the correct zip file. [&:]

Your fine. I was remembering some other games.

You should have one for Neutral as well.

*whew*
I was hoping my brain faculties were still in place. Now, I do have a few questions:
1.)The BITMAPS go in the C: XXXXX Matrix game folder or the My Documents..My Games..folder?

2.) The interface just goes in the My Documents..My Games..folder?

This is where I lose it. But thank you for your patience! [&o]

Followed to the letter...but hex-grid overlay still not showing up. This is frustrating...

I am curious why only user mods are located in the My Documents.....etc. The stock campaigns are not.

You'll have to ask Hubert to answer this one. I suspect it is so folks like me don't mess up the original graphics beyond repair.

Hello Hairog, another wink from France...
Apologize for my broken english but I have installed with pain and sweat and tears the mod created by Welk.
It looks like a real glare , it was as if I re-opened my old and dusty wargame boxes....
Joli travail, l'ami !
In your last screenshots, I can see aircraft counters shown as...planes not NATO counters ! How did you get them, because I couln't find them in Welk 's mod.? And do you have an adress or a location where I could find this ?
Thanks for the helps to beginners ...

It's a Windows thing, all games are doing it. Has to do with security.

FYI:

"Something appears to be missing…

"The key you provided for file access was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on MediaFire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or MediaFire."

Nice looking map mod! But, unfortunately the link provided at the top of this page is no longer working for my late arriving Italian Mobile Coffin Armored Company ...

(In the meantime, I would duly appreciate knowing of any other available map mods to try out ... I find the original map graphics to be less satisfying than earlier versions of Strategic Command. Thanks.)
