RE: New from Tiller
thanks SDC - i did message jts on this and rich replied i have linked this thread also - i messaged jts querying about the 3d before all this conversation here started, so hence some duplication has occurred.
when you say that the artist would just do them and the development team does the rest - does this mean the artist was just doing concepts of the units and not doing each version of each unit facing each specific direction? if so, i am not sure why the artist would be needed beause all the unit details needed can already be amply found in books and online, or am i understanding this wrong?

RE: New from Tiller
By development team, it means 'Graphics Coordinator' - or in this case that was me.
What I got back was I got back each of the 6 facings needed for the game files. In my specific case, I wasn't bothered about getting big sized images back then I would resize them. Obviously what you have posted are a lot closer (I'd go so far as to say those are usable at the size you did them) -and that is how you prefer to work -then that is fine too.
I'd probably suggest doing all 6 facings in a strip and only working on them one strip at a time. This would be so that the exact unit could be labelled and communicated to the scenario designer -so that he could update his OOB file. The OOB file has a spot where it is assigned a number on the unit files to point to a row of graphics.
We'd also check to make sure that none of the background colour (think green screen like effect)shows through on the map.
But, no --- the files sent over by an artist are the ones that are used.
I think what happened was that I was giving a pretty broad answer, and it was based upon the experience with a specific artist. I have to go find some screenshots of what I had been given, it will give a better idea of what I am talking about.

RE: New from Tiller
The title is great, with a lot of battles and moving in a good size to be played relative fast without need a lot of time, changes compared with napoleonic series made the title a good tactical wargame for the period.
In the 3D... i really prefer over the "bigsoldierphilia" (a common disease in XVIII century [:D]) the napoleonic aproximation with smaller soldiers but in more dense formations giving a true sensation of battalions-regiments and well, even in EAW serie i prefer tiny soldiers to but only is an incomplete mod for "French Indian War".
For example this is how look scottish in Peninsula title (still waiting the 2nd part hehehe).

Anyway a 3D is allways wellcome maybe not to play in 3D but as a faster way to revise your troops without excesive clicks.

I don't like the larger-scale miniatures look; I prefer the smaller (and more of them) soldiers look. The examples in the previous post look great!

Greetings Agathosdaimon & Hexagon,
I appreciate the work you are doing with 3D minis though smaller units are a little harder on my 65+ old eyes.
Keep them coming[&o]
There is a JTS Seven Years War thread at grogheads on 3D minis:

How things can work, is that the research can be done by the graphics coordinator - in other words source the uniform images (like from Kronoskaf ... I probably spelled that wrong, but it was a big help ... and I wish they had a similar site for all the different periods.
In this period, and especially with a smaller scale, there can be far fewer differentiating features between a lot of units, so one might not need to do every single different unit.
-I also prefer smaller scale in gaming miniatures, to the point where I would like it much closer to the scale of the battle being played - mind you, if one goes by that standard, then even those in the Peninsular title are way too big (a 500 men unit being represented by 24 figures) -just to put things in to perspective. In my case, the 'larger scale' wasn't going to be because of personal preference, but rather more to showcase what I had gotten back, at that time.
The fact of the matter, though, is that different artists have different takes on scale, and their own personal style; as a graphics coordinator -at least in my view, is to allow the artist the freedom to do their thing in their own way, within reason (that being sometimes the way a game performs and what needs to be shown will sometimes take priority.
Anyway, I am trying to get together a map based upon files from a few titles, and some of the files I was originally provided by Joe (amoral).

RE: New from Tiller
The 3D image i post is the stock graphics from "Bonaparte´s Peninsular war" title, since Tiller leave HPS all the napoleonic titles released new in JTS have this kind of art for units in 3D, i dont know if older titles receive them but before appear in Tiller games as stock scens there was a serie of mods with that kind of units in 3D.
Berto, i know there was a similar mod for ACW titles with small soldiers, dont ask me whats the mod name or where find it, i dont have idea because my HD crash and i am crazy to try find the missing files

But if you want offer sensation of mass nothing like tiny soldiers [:)]

Prefer the massed battalion's.
Was it not Erjax mod for the nappy games and Rolf's mod for ACW games.

RE: New from Tiller
those ACW graphics are cool - they are not as small as the Leipzig ones but still have mass to them - i will take that into consideration.
The good news is that I have had some more discussion with the JTS folks, SDC included of course and will make the 3d art for units - it might take a while as i am doing it just in my own time which i dont have as much of nowadays

RE: New from Tiller
Thank you Berto for the reply, i was crazy searching the mods file i had for Tiller games... at least thanks to God i made a backup of the HPS folder if not i miss all the modded games... maybe i cant have the mods but i have the moded games [8|]
Well, tiny soldiers could be bigger, the models used in napoleonic serie and the ACW mod... i imagine is possible increase their size but is true that maybe is faster create the 3D soldiers for SYW (and with a little luck for future M&P titles) using napoleonic art as base.
An interesting thing offered by ACW mod is that cavalry units when are dismounted have a different 3D image, this is something that is posible do to in SYW in dragoon units (and i have in mind another army that started XVIII century with his regular army made only by dragoon type units) and when you are in 3D see easier where is the infantry and where is are the dragoons

I hAVE taken some time just to further make possible units and so just want to see whether you like this scale - its a little bigger than Leipzig but not so big as Waterloo

Excellent job [&o]
You can try contact with somebody related with M&P project and show your work to them, SYW was released with no 3D because work done was small and not enough to release it, if you can do a 3D art like this for title and future titles in serie...
You have something i never had... art abilities keep them moving

PD: and i have in mind other serie that could benefic from your great art work... Early American Wars that is suposed is going to be reworked in next years.

RE: New from Tiller
what is M%P project, - Hexagon do you also work with HPS/JTS? -
Early American Wars i will happily do in future, and Great Northern War and perhaps if JTS ever does the 1807 period of campaigning i would sign on to do that in a heartbeat!
but i best not get ahead of myself - i need to just get the units for SYW done first which will be no small task as it involves quite a number of nations!
