Acid is hard to see

Post by customer717 »

Is there any possibility to make certain terrain more visible in the 3d mode?

An example of what I mean is the acid terrain. In the 3d terrain mode it is not terribly noticiable as it sits in a kinda gray color. However, when I flipped the view to 2d hex tiles it was green and clear as day.

Water is quite visible (in the 3d map), but other things like acid, swamp, and such do not seem as easy to pick out without clicking on the hex.

Just a suggestion. Plus the clearly defined green areas really added some spice to the bio map; I really missed them when I flipped back to 3d mode.

Notice that there are 2 different textures for each of the 5 battlefield types.
Small patches of quicksand may elude your eyes, but that's cool, you have to be sharp during battle. Haven't noticed anything strange about acid.

BTW, terrain textures *are* moddable ;) HeightTexture?.pcx files in the images folder.

The two terrain sets for Biochem include one with a medium-to-light grey/brown and a nice gradient into green for higher elevations (HeightTexture1.bmp). The second set has a very dark, almost scorched earth look and highly-visible greenish acid (HeightTexture2.bmp, this one's my favorite :)).

Here is a high-visibility graphic mod for set #1. All I've done is increase gamma and contrast for the acid and acid+rock textures. Nothing else has been altered.

Acid is much more visible against the greyish terrain in set #1 with this simple terrain mod.

Just unzip the file and drop it into your WS images folder. You might want to re-name or copy/move the original HeightTexture1.bmp to a new location in case you want to restore it later (without having to re-install :p).

Enjoy!

I changed the file. The acid is a light tan color now. If I set the textures to be 16bit then the acid is green. Something seems to be wrong.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough above. Like Thorgrim said, there are two different terrain sets for each battlefield type. The game randomly (?) selects a terrain type from the chosen battlefield at game start. Here is how the acid/terrain appears on one of them:

Green acid from HeightTexture2.bmp

Here are shots of the acid and acid+rock from the other set:

Yellow acid from HeightTexture1.bmp

And here is the hi-visiblilty version mod, taken from the same game but with the new HeightTexture1.bmp replacing the original:

Bit resolution affects nothing but the color depth of the in-game graphics, and the new HeightTexture1.bmp in my zip file changes nothing in this regard.

Hope that clears it up a bit. :)

Good job Void. Now you just need to lighten up all of those black mountain tops.

VH is the first Mod-God for WS. :D

I'm a dedicated Mod-Slut from Combat Mission and I look forward to lots of community graphic improvements for WS (not that there's anything wrong with the stock version, but eye candy doesn't suck).
