Multiplayer log-in sharing?

Greetings,

Trying to teach a new player the game. Things are such a disaster I asked for his log-in info but even when I enter his user name and password I get a "login string is invalid" error.

I assume that's because the serial # can't be changed.

In any case, is there any way to see the opponents file when he *wants* you to see it?

The problems go even deeper that that - the valve system can consider someone logging in to two accounts from the same computer as against their rules. We investigated this for the team side games, and the conclusion most had was they did not want to risk their own individual accounts getting banned.
