You might check www.talonsoft.com. They might still be selling it online.

But you're not alone. 'I love in seden' also. ;)

Check here also: http://www.take2store.com/

Search for '0perational art of war' and then click on 'The Operational Art of War: Century of Warfare - PC'. Its still available for $39.99 US.

From their page:

'This amazing collection includes The Operational Art of War Volume 1, The Operational Art of War Volume 1: Battlepack 1, The Operational Art of War Volume 2, The Operational Art of War Volume 2: Flashpoint Kosovo Battlepack and bonus World War I era scenarios & database.

Please note this is a jewelcase version of the game.'

Not to take aaaaaany interest away from you getting TOAW because heck I have it and I consider it incredible, but you have alternatives now.

Korun Pocket might entertain you, and you might want to look into Battlefields here at Matrix Games.

Battlefields is shaping up to be a very possible next generation game experience of the sort that Talonsoft gave us with Operational Art of War.

Another option, might be to look into this site here.

http://www.warfarehq.com/

(please note Warfare HQ's discussions forums are down for maintenance as I post this).

You might be able to arrange for a used copy from a member there if you can't locate a new copy of Century of Warfare.

And if you like the older versions (which have nothing wrong with them), you might look into this at CD Access.com.

http://www.cdaccess.com/html/pc/artwar1e.htm

Keep in mind, the older versions might not like Windows XP.

Thanks for the help guys! If I am able to buy it from Take 2 Store is it worth the 39.99 US dollar? I mean, it is an old game and it might not be of the sam quality like the new ones. I have East Front 2. Is TOAW better or worse? Is it a big diffrence?

Yes

It is worth every penny
And the community is still active so you can fine plenty of PBEM opponents and new scenarios

And while I agree with Les that Battlefields will likely be the next step in operational wargaming...
It could very well be up to a year before we see the release of that

If you really want to find out if it is worth it....here is a demo
(hope you have broadband)

Demo

This is for the first game...but aside from a few minor differences..its the same game

Is it worth it, even if old, hmmm

I have yet to see a game lose value based entirely on age.

I own ASL, if the house was on fire, I would be saving it first. And that game hails from 2 decades back.

Steel Panthers is now getting fairly old in its original form, and yet as we speak I am help develope the 4th Mega Campaign for it.

I have zero reason to not want to play Allied General, again not a new game.

Worth it, I bought Century of Warfare OOOOONLY because I wanted it to run on Windows XP without a lot of fuss. I actually already owned Operational Art of War Elite edition volumes 1 and 2.
But Volume 1 hated XP and that is that.

Cost me 80 bucks (canadian) to get my XP friendly copy. Money I spent willingly.

There are those that will be able to quote why you "might" not like the game. I can quote you reasons why you "might" not like every wargame ever made though.

If you can get your mitts on a copy, it will be money well spent I think.

I don't have a thing against old game at all. Not a tiny little thing. I just wondered, becasue this game might cost me about 750 US dollar, if it had been replaced with a newer game like East Front 2 or any other operational game that is easier and cheaper to obtain. The fact that the game is old doesn't bother me at all.
Again thanks for all the info!

I'll say this once again. It seems like this topic pops up here once a month.

I own TOAW I & II. I need the "A Century of Warfare" version in order to work on WinXP. F'in Nazis. ;) It's almost a crime I'd have to buy them all over again just to play such a wonderful wargame.

Personally, I loved the good Vietnam scenario hosted on wargamer. It was based off the VG game (named, of all things-Vietnam) . The FOW system was great. Bad thing is, there is two different versions. I can't recall who made the one that is most enjoyable.......

The other favorite was the Invasion of Cuba circa early 60s style. It was one of the scenarios that came with the game IIRC. Talk about tough! You weren't given a whole lot to deal with your objectives that's for sure!

All in all, the user made scenarios really made the game stand out. I loved 'em. :D More than any other game that came equipped with a mission editor. Absolutely wonderful!
I miss it. :(

Thanks Para.

The cash flow is a bit restricted these days. I still have extra computer(s) that are Win98 fortunately. It's good for single player goodness and I can get by on it, so no worries as long as the scenarios downloads are hosted. :D

The problem with take2store is that it is based in the US and the shipping to sweden alone is 35 USD!! And that is for a jewelcase!! Well since I live in sweden the total amount will be 750USD and that is kind of expensive for a student. But on the other hand, I am studying to be an history teacher and my main intrest is operatinal art of war.:)

I hate to do this, but you can also check eBay.com. There might be someone in Europe willing to part with their copy of TOAW:COW.

Kung you have made an error in not thinking outside of the box dude.

Sweden is just a 5 dollar mailing charge to me here in Canada eh.

It is about the same for a US citizen as well.

The point being, have a friend purchase it, and remail it from his/her place as private mail. Won't cost you more than 5 bucks past the cost to a North American citizen.

That said, I have my old copy of Operational Art of War Elite Edition Volume One, interested in it?

It is the version designed for WW2 battles. So no, if you want modern version ie Operational Art of War Elite Edition Volume 2, I can't help you there.

It's up for offer, and I don't want a fortune for it.

Only downside, is if you are not able to employ Win 98 SE, it won't likely be any use to you.

PM me if you have any interest. Game is in excellent condition, I even have the box and manual if you are not afraid of a couple extra bucks on top of what I would need to mail it.

I also have TOAW Eleete edition. Bought it years ago for only 13 bucks canadian due to some non-wargamer in the store thinking it was supposed to be in the bargain bin because he thought the ugly grey cover meant it was an OLD game!!!

One of my best finds. In any case, I was sadend a couple years ago to find that my ahem... CD is no longer compatible with an NT system. I can not play it using any NT kernel, especialy not on XP. So be carefull guys, better go with MatrixGames and make sure your software will be compatible.

The ironic thing is, MicroSoft in all their wisdom, likes to give me errors saying my CD is a non NT compatible piece of hardware. As though you need WINDOWS formated CDs!

I have TOAW - Wargame of the Year Edition - does anyone know if this will run on XP? (Pi$$ed me off - about three months after I bought it they put out the "COW" edition, and changed the game engine. I can't find any scenarios for this version, but it plays well under Win98.)
