Spain/Turkey/Sweden Axis advantage

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Spain/Turkey/Sweden Axis advantage

Post by Dorky8 »

There seems to be a large advantage to the Axis when Spain/Turkey or Sweden swing 100% thru diplomacy. The advantage is that the Germans get many more points (3-4x) than the British and then can take more advantage of the new Ally (upgrade and buy units).

Is there a way as Allies to have the countries controlled by Russia or US? What am I missing? It seems this is a large advantage to the Axis. The largest point producer gets control when Axis and the Allies the lowest point producer gets control.

Your numbers aren't correct, the Axis gets 60% more income from those countries due to the railway connections to its capital (8 instead of 5), but in case of Sweden the whole income is represented by the convoy, and that should be the same for the Allies. Sweden just benefits in case Leningrad is Axis.

In case the SU gets the last hit on Turkey or Sweden, theoretically they would also benefit the same way, if they manage to connect their ressources to Moskau (which is admittedly highly unlikely).

In case the SU conquers Sweden and Finnland, the ressources also go up to 8.

Nevertheless the Axis in any case has got the advantage of the "inner line". But that's not even the whole story, every country alligned to the Axis and switches side is automatically worth the double. Your strategy should consider those facts.

Sorry I should have been clearer.

My point isn't what points each country receives from Spain, Turkey, Sweden its what troops they can buy upgrade.

If the Germans are getting 1000 points per turn and Brits 350, then the Axis can upgrade existing (STS)troops and buy new one's much easier. I think players should be able to designate which country controls. Maybe I'm missing something, for example can I buy Turkish troops with Russia points once they have allied with Allies?

Your point is very interesting tho thnx.

The country owning the occupied country can buy and upgrade their troops. It`s not that difficult btw to compensate and distribute income between the Aliies; if Britain has a demand for higher income, just improve convoys from the US and decrease convoys from GB to SU. The outcome of diplo hits are nevertheless random, if all nations invested the same amount of chits, could be Turkey getting sovyet or brit. (never saw them turm US).

Ahh so if Turkey is 90% towards Allies and I only have Russia chits on Turkish Diplo and they go Allied Russia controls.

Is that correct?

I guess so, but it`s hard to figure out, since usually the Axis will counter. In any case I witnessed the new Major always to be the one whos chit fired at last.

Btw, if Turkey joins the Allies and the Axis isn't able to occupy it the next few turns, the game will be won for the Allies very soon, especially if the Middle East is in Allied hands and they're able to support Turkey. The income ist decisive in this case.

Hi

The Major that controls a friendly Minor is pre-set in the Editor. In Turkey's case it would belong to the UK.

ty

So its UK for Spain, Turkey & Sweden?

I'm guessing thats because they are the only one definitely in the war.

Do you see my point how thats an advantage for Germans because of the points per turn?

Intended I guess.

I remember one time the SU was their major, but it may be I confuse it with Romania. Did this change during the last updates, and would it be possible to post the intended majors for all minors?

I posted a similar question here:
tm.asp?m=4485809
that it would be nice if we could assign the Minors parents ourselves.

I think it is true that we cannot tell which country is the parent of which Minor until the Minor is active, or by looking in the Editor. If nobody can indicate another way, maybe I will go thru the Editor and compile a list of Parents.

I don't recall changing it, but if so it would be in the Version Notes.

You're right, and going through the Editor is the only effective way of doing so with all the countries.
