game crashes every time I pick this unit up to move it.

Post by jjdenver »

game crashes every time I pick up the 4-2 Canton MIL in south china. I've tried with 2.8.9.4 and 2.7.1 - both crash

EDIT: Also happens for 3-3 INF in China, also for 6-3 chicom INF. Also happens with Zhukov in Russia :(

EDIT2: We've determined it's something to do with the naval moves. If we go back to beginning of impulse and bypass naval moves everything works but when we use the autosave after naval combat by phasing (allied) side the problem occurs.

We figured out that it only happens after naval combats. If you bypass all phasing naval combats it doesn't happen. Here is save before naval combats for phasing side.

EDIT: It seems that it happens only after we execute the naval combat in CSV where the cp & TRS in 0 box were sunk leaving a supply void in that hex - somehow this is affecting Soviet and Chinese land moves in asia..........zoinks :(

Can this be fixed? We can go back and stick another TRS out in CSV 2 box to keep this from happening but what happens if CW is legitimately knocked out of CSV? We can't continue the game?

EDIT2: I went back to end of naval moves and stuck a TRS into CSV 2 box to prevent the problem of no supply through CSV but now when I end naval moves game pops up a box saying partisan belonging to CW was destroyed because it exceeds foreign troop commitment level - this is before phasing naval combat box pops up - strange time for this to happen. And the partisan in Poland disappears!!

jj,
Very strange. I only fought the CSV sea battle and with the Axis. eliminated the Spanish transport and the CW convoy. Then skipped all other Axis possible sea battles.
Went straight to land movement phase.
Picked up Zhukov and yes, had a break. I chose 'continue' and then the game proceeded to go into a loop meaning I had a little blue circle (WIN7) letting me know the PC is thinking. I could pick up and move units, including the 2 Chinese units you mentioned, but the PC was really thinking hard. I could also go back and move Zhukov on second try.
I do believe it is a supply calc issue. The game is trying to figure out new supply paths with the loss of supply in CSV.
Then I tried to go back to the Chinese front after moving Zhukov and the game graphics went haywire.
Using task manager the game was using a lot of memory and calculations. Has to be supply calc problem.

Paul - what do you think?

It's almost got to be supply or trade right? But strange that supply for CW would affect china and SU supply?

This sounds more like a damaged game file to me. Was any editing of the game file done?

Yes, I think BP's were added in the previous production phase for USSR. But this is a very simple operation of replacing a number like 20 with another number like 21 after searching for 0,Production and finding first number in the line below. I doubt this is causing the issue. Unfortunately production is so buggy that it's hard to play a game without doing this simple edit.

I think the problem is not the edit.

NO!

The program has a list of all the build points, oil points, and other resources active in the game. When you change the number of BPs in the saved game file, you are not changing the number 'resources' with all their associated data (who controls, location, etc.

If you edit the GAM file and then have troubles, you are entirely on your own.
