I know float planes can give some slight cover for night raiders.
Have you tried Nates?

And congratulations on the counter invasion.
Any notes you would like to pass along on the amphib ship composition would be greatly appreciated (ie. load spread for fast deployment).

Thanks
[&o]

Using Oscars and they are doing very well in not being shot down. Nates would work too with good pilots, but I am very short on those squadrons by now. Just boosting up the radar and AA now.

I used both LSDs, as many AK's that I had close by (AK-t) but ran out and I think, but haven't checked, but I suspect xak-t are better than the xAP. I also used several AMC, the two of three training cruisers, embedded a battleship.

If a follow on invasion would be required I was going to wait 1-3 days for the ships to rearm and disruption to wear off the troops that already landed.

Mid July 1942

Allies are probably stronger than Japan here, now in the Aleutians...but the IJN is on the way, and still not toothless.

Yesterday a large convoy showed up near Amchitka, and 5 Allied battleships have pounded the base two days ago...so it looked
like invasion.

The IJN had pulled back to replenish planes at Paramushiro and was only just heading back into contested waters, but was within a flank speed run to contest the invasion, but rather a mission speed run was decided upon...and lo, no invasion, good weather, and scratch one resupply effort of Attu.

Your aggressive approach this game is really paying off. I'm surprised the Allies keep pushing in the Aleutians after recent actions. Another gaggle of ships down and no appreciable reduction of the IJN.

The Tabiteuaea landing was really well timed and supported. To get back at it early before forts rose was key. Forts 3 is sooooo much easier than forts 6 for an atoll landing. Seeing a full Marine ID wiped out at this stage isn't common, and won't be easy to replace. [&o]

Tabi campaign can serve as a textbook example of why Allies should not start their island hopping too soon. Well played!

Two more days and the KB would be reunited (except for Akagi undergoing some minor repairs for another 4 days at Yoko)....

So the question is to contest the landings, or is this a bluff, or let whatever happens happens, or somewhere in between.

The Japanese navy is close to consolidating with overwhelming air power...support ships and troops are close by.

Did you set your small destroyers squadron route voluntarily in a way such to intercept after the shore bombardment?

If so, why with only 2 destroyers and not 3 or 4? To lessen the risk and squadron's detection?

If so, a jem, worth embedding in WITPAE annals.

If you use the wrong route it might end in a rout.

Yes, I plotted the route to avoid the bombardment force on the way in hoping to catch either it on the way back, or an ambib TF on the way in or dallying, or the covering American Carrier force.

I only used 2 destroyers, because the IJN fleet is spread out, re-armament is at Parashimuro.

Low surface threat was selected, so as to launch torpedoes and run...

3rd Week of July 1942

Cat and Mouse game here in the Aleutians...most of the Allied navy is here including POW and Repulse. 100 Allied Fighters flying LRCAP over Amchitka

So far the Allies pretty much like big task forces with multiple ship types in them including mine sweepers.

Americans have landed a 2nd contingent of troops on Amchitka, the 32nd Division...now up to 17 AV.

Hard to see how there won't be fireworks on the morrow...the American Battelships should be rearmed...thunderstorms and 67% moonlight.

Once again, the one day late to spring the big trap...but the IJN had analyzed the Allied tactical stratagems, and decided that this worthless little island, a destroyer rush could cause maximum damage for minimum downside while the IJN heavies stayed fresh, and safe....

The first destroyer squadron in...and they land two torpedoes. Allied fleet composition is perfectly composed for the destroyer rush.
