Sitting Ducks

Post by ctid98 »

I'm presently carrying out a game against the AI and have just sank 3 of his heavy cruisers with air power. The problem is (if there is one) his cruisers were docked in Lugan and I was hitting him from Irau for about 3 days and he never moved!

I can understand catching him the first day but to leave his cruisers there to be blown to bits as the pleasure took me seems a little odd especially as none of them had any damage prior to the first days attacks. All I can think of was that because the cruisers had no support vessels they didn't want to put to sea and hoped to weather the storm.

I've no objection to killing these major threats for little or no lose to myself, but is the AI in the habit of leaving ships to be sunk simply because there docked???

Thanks

I've found playing against the AI is good for learning the mechanics of play but worthless for learning any tactics. The AI will do some very stupid things that even a bad human player( do I include myself here?) would not do.

I've seen this over and over with the AI; yes the ships will stay there. I had a field day once I got Shortland in range of SBDs and TBDs. The would pound shipping and I think the AI routine would say "hey I'm a damaged ship... where's the closest large port?" Each ship I damaged would then dock in Shortland and await destruction.

I sunk so much shipping there it was a wonder that anything could fit in the harbor.

Unfortunately, the AI is just not challenging once you have played more than a month or two of game turns, and have learned how to play the game.

For example, as allies, the AI always sends the Hobart/Chicago/Australia task force to Gili Gili at the start of each game. Often, they get there and just hang around there, getting blown out of the water by Bettys from Rabaul.
