Titan selection

Post by LarkinVB »

Players asked to get the chance to set up specific titans for random battles, picking them in the battle module. I'm not sure I like this as it would allow players to match their hq team against hand picked opposition, negating the RPG aspects.

Currently I'm thinking of limiting it to either duels only or to disallow if you select a team from file or to drop it at all. I will also check how much time it will take me at all as I don't want to sink too much into it.

Feedback ? Who is *really* needing that feature.

Like I said in the other thread, I overcame this by using a special squad. It works very well. I can test multiple designs at the same time too. The only down side is that a special squad is not built with the exact same rules as a random squad, but for testing purposes, it works fine.
Since I don't see any other purpose that cannot be accomplished by either a custom squad or a special squad, I'm not sure this is needed that bad. Or at all.
Allowing it for duels only would seem ok, but that should not be extensive to net duels.
So, IMO, not really needed.

I have to go with Iceman. If you want specific titans, for testing or whatever, make a special squad for it. I always have one around. If the battle's supposed to be random, being able to choose the titans in it defeats the purpose - and it definitely should not be available for online battles, since half of the fun (or worry..heh) comes from waiting to see what titan you get.

So, in my opinion, being able to choose the titan for a random battle isn't necessary or wanted.

Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

The first question all my nephews asked were 'What are the cheat codes?' Personally, I never use them.

I would not be against adding this as an option to Hotseat or Network games.

If it will make it more fun for some players and not change the game for the rest. I would not be against it. I think it would help younger players get into the game.

I want it only for hotseat games and netgames, but only when dueling.

In terms of need. I don't need it.

I'd like it as an option for duels only. It could add a whole new aspect of competition to duels (by being able to see how your custom design matches up against your opponent's for example).

I probably wouldn't use the feature at all with squads.

Ok. I added it for hotseat + network, its called 'PICK TITANS', not limited to duels. As soon as you 'LOAD TEAM FROM FILE' you can't for other teams 'PICK TITANS' and vice versa. Me thinks that is a good solution allowing to test without a chance to cheat.

Yay! Sometimes the simplest solution is the most elegant, yes?

Sounds good to me, thank you Larkin!

I also added weapon range + damage display in the hq on the titan page. This should help newbies in evaluating the titans use.

I had not thought of the possible RPG exploits. I think you have a fair compromise here. It will let us pick specific lances to duke it out when we want, but not damage the RPG system (which is a whole game in itself). Thank you.
