I also suck, really bad. I can only get so far in the campaign, and then, bamf, I get beat back to the stone age and have to start over.
I am, however, getting really good at the first few Savanah campaign missions.
I am also developing favorite recon titans (since, outside of a light or three that is all I've piloted). First, I liked the Duelist and the Hammer (an awesome enough combo), backed up by a Banzai or two. I've gravitated away from that. Chainsaws and AC/20's are nice, granted, but the Duelist takes an inordinate time to lock on to anything, and the Hammer takes forever to reload. Banzi's tend to have heat problems, because their reload time is too short.
Latest squad tends to be a Swift Death (Power Axes, plus a CC skill of 60+, :p ) for my leader. Pack Hunter (GME plus Vibra Claws, I love Vibra Claws. I also love the message Cockpit Hit!), for the buisness manager. A Fireball or a Quantum for my mechanic (Cold Light, or hot napalm), and a Guru for the last member of the squad (Tesla to the head, or leg really makes my day).
Squad tends to be close range, in your face. Given that starting jocks have starting skills, and hitting at range is something that isn't going to happen with these guys for some time, I don't mind.
My biggest challenge is engine explosions. Combine a low DC skill with the fact that very few (if any) recon titans actually carry DC, well, things tend to go boom. A lot. Sometimes more than one at a time.
Despite that, and despite getting creamed on a semi-regular basis (I believe I'm improving), I enjoy this game. A lot.
So here I am, sending a thank you to the programmers.
Eh, I've rambled enough. I've got titans to blow up....
