Fortress Chungking is now forming up. Moving in strength on Chengtu, which only has 1-2 Chinese Corp's defending there. The goal now
is to encircle Chungking and start to reducing the 400,000 troops there.
Really good … Aug and you are getting ready to attack CK.

Invasion Attu is off and running...and might be in trouble here early on. I elected to land just one division, hoping to entice an Allied counterattack.

76% Prep, and lots of bombardments and yet the Allies are probably behind heavy forts and put up stiff resistance.

I elected to go with this strategy since there is no initial shock attack, but I wasn't expecting such losses...

Wow, the allies got a really lucky roll with those odds on a shock attack.

You haven't lost too many troops, just disruption.
But a whole Div on ATTU … surprising to put that much forward. you will win and he will be down a division that will take him some months to get replacements for.

IIRC it starts as regiments on the west coast/Hawaii.

Some players may not bother paying the PPs to combine them.

KB has retired for repairs, upgrades and to cover the Port Moresby invasion.

Attu seems doomed...daily bombardments and bombing. Japanese fighters hold their own against massive Allied sweeps and now the American Air Force is quiet.

Attu! So, if you lose control of the air and seas around a base, it doesn't matter how many troops you can stuff on an island, the troops there are doomed. Certainly a harsh lesson against early Allied aggressiveness, unless it is to funnel and direct Japanese aggression for some greater purpose. Also, it is a lesson for Japanese defense later in the game.

Early frustrations for Japan...

Additionally, the Allies are pursuing a fairly heavy night time bombing campaign. The British against Ceylon (after hitting Magwe), and now B17s at 3000 feet in the Aleutians.

It turns out that even Oscars Ic can do good work at night against the lightly armed British 2E bombers, but the nothing can stop the Beastly 4E other than their own high SR.

I was one to two days off from really catching the Allied Carriers or Surface fleet on two separate occasions.

And finally, a super concentrated heavy Allied mine presence has sunk several IJN destroyers.

Still, it feels good to take Attu, even if fragments of the units present were flown off.

Whither now, brave Horatio?

Adak has a super heavy minefield, CD guns, 400 AFVs, 600 guns, 200 fighters, 60 aux and 30 bombers....

Taking it is possible, but at what opportunity cost?

PM:

3 Divisions prepped for invasion, which is serious overkill...Two fleet CVs & two BBs are at Rabaul, KB less Shokaku and Zuikaku are at Truk (ernroute).

So this seems like the next operation.

Mr.Kane seems to think that Wargamr likes to launch operations up into the SRA from Oz...which makes Horn and Darwin fairly important.

Building up Taiden for late war.

Notable ship upgrades going on...getting the two CLAA and radar for the CVs. The first AA upgrades for the other fleet carriers will have to wait until Port Moresby is captured and of course depends upon what opportunities beckon.

I expanded Maizuru to a size 50 repair shipyard (Tokyo is size 10 in this mod). It is a major conversion yard, doing about 25 or more AR conversions.
