Bob Cross CFNA Supply Units

Post by PzKpfw6A!! »

Hi all, new to the forums, but have been playing since the COW days. Can someone explain to me why the supply units need to be placed on improved roads at the end of a turn? I'm playing the CW, both SP's are intact. I understand the 25 hex range, that makes sense. I've got one SP near Bardia in the desert but on an un-improved road; and another down in the desert south near Bir Bu Salama, again on a road but not an improved one, helping the Coldstream Guards beat up the Oasis Battalion. What are the ramifications here? Having spent 25 years in the Army, improved roads are always preferable to un-improved for the rapid movement of supplies but I've never seen the lack of improved roads negate the deployment of supply units (like current day COSCOM units) into those kinds of terrain. Thanks!

That is a house rule I imposed to focus the best supply along the coast road. Remember that the supply model used in TOAW involves plenty of abstraction. You are not actually moving supply trucks all over the place. If you were, and chose to scatter them all over the map, enemy supply poaching efforts (guerrillas and such) would wreck those efforts. Safer for supply trucks along the coast road, since reinforcements were taking that route at the same time.

Thanks for that speedy reply! It (the house rule) makes sense for the conduct of the scenario/game engine. Tell you what though, am having a real blast with this scenario. Playing CFNA is just as thought provoking as playing someone who is better than me during a good game of Chess. One really, really has to exercise the gray matter to execute moves/turns properly to not have your deriere handed to you on a plate. Makes me appreciate the tough situation our brothers across the pond had to deal with. Kudos! And have a great Turkey Day!
